In messages sent to state education officials on Monday, the U.S. Department of Education said “decisions have not yet been made concerning submissions and awards for this upcoming year.” The funding, already appropriated by Congress and approved by President Donald Trump in March, was expected to be available on Tuesday, July 1.

The funds in question include five different grants which largely fund summer and after-school programs that serve millions of students across the country. Of the $6.8 billion halted, the programs impacted include $375 million for migrant education, $2.2 billion for professional development, $890 million for English-learner services, $1.3 billion for academic enrichment and $1.4 billion for before- and after-school programs.

What Trump is doing is 1) illegal as these funds have already been appropriated, and 2) totally contrary to our national interests.

No more free school lunches in the summer?

For the first time in my adult life, I'm disgusted and ashamed to be an American under this gestapo regime AKA the republican party. Well past time for KARMA to get busy exacting real justice.

DJT is an insanely stupid liar saying things that no one with two working brain cells would believe.

I wonder what would happen if we bombarded the Pentagon with e-mails asking a question:

At what point does the US military doing nothing about a "Domestic Enemy" constitute:
"Dereliction of Duty"?

What is professional development and what are we getting for that $2.2 billion
What is academic enrichment and what does that $1.3 billion give us?

The billionaire class strategy is tried and tested way of control.

Take everything from the people, but leave them with just enough, that they are afraid to lose the little they have left as well as seeing fellow citizens, not as friends, but as competitors and adversaries.

Trumpists are hook line and sinker, pushing the US towards full blown authoritarianism and they are the ones they could stop it at any point.

By having any principles and pulling their support for Trump.

But they won’t.

Because they’re garbage people.

Time to sharpen the pitchforks.

You really avoid doing your own research don't you?

Professional development would include programs for teachers to stay current with subject matter and teaching methods.
Academic enrichment might include funds for technology, or purchase of materials that enhance learning.

I have to say that reading your posts it is hard to determine whether you are 80 or 15....But in either case, maybe you can understand that simple explanation I gave you.

Oh, I think a good start would be to look at the bill that...Congress passed, and which the President signed into law, and which Trump is legally obligated to disburse.

Would you like to start there?

You wanna take a look at that, and then after that we can take a look at where funds usually go to and the kind of outcomes we usually see?

This is impoundment. It’s illegal. Much like his toilet paper EO’s, it would be great if the media stopped bestowing powers of a king on the dotard.

Remember that time during covid when parents whined about needing their kids to go to school because they worked?
This includes before and after school programs.

And yet they voted for trump because they are ****ing idiots.

Can you believe how some panties are in a twist over seven billion dollars of cuts after Joe Biden added $202–206 billion in federal K-12 funding over the course of his term in office?

The "libs" and their faux outrage.

What part of "dismantle the Department of Education" do y'all not understand?

Yep, the GOP wanted kids "educated and fed" when they thought it would spread the covid.

Otherwise, crickets.
