‘We Are All Afraid’: Republican Senator Admits Colleagues Are Terrified of Being Punished for Criticizing Trump

She’s not alone.

there you go @ConWolf

is this specificity about the fear sufficient?

I decided I better quote some of the article to make things simple enough:

“It’s more more personal. It’s their personal safety that they’re afraid of, and they have spouses and family members saying, ‘Do not do this, it’s not worth it, it will change our lives forever. We will have to hire around-the-clock security.’ Life can be very uncomfortable for your children.
“That is real, because when [Elon] Musk [Trump’s most powerful ally] tweets at somebody, or Trump tweets at somebody, or calls somebody out, their lives are turned upside down.
“When he tweets at you, people make threats, and you have to take people at their word. And so that is a real thing that my colleagues struggle with.”

Social media is an existential threat to democratic government.

rational irrationality is a weak spot for representative governments for sure

but it's a standard issue human behavior

So, it is the Achille's heel for all forms of government

with a representative government there are many more people who must be affected than in dictatorships

Not sure what to say...grow a spine? But is that correct? Because nobody should have to be afraid of standing up to the corruption and lawlessness of the Trump administration.

She should be afraid.

She and her corrupt Senatorial ilk have gotten away with a lot of corrupt stuff for years. Time to pay the piper.

Please do show us some examples of Murkowksi's corruption. Try not to use the conservative treehouse.

Mycroft doesn’t do evidence. The Right doesn’t do evidence. The Right does power.

The Left and Center need to learn that and start doing the same thing.

Wut?

it's about how and why humans make stupid decisions sometimes when we should or could easily do better

I assumed that people's stupid decisions were the reason you were disparaging social media

Keep in mind, the people making these threats pretty much look at Trump the same way Mycroft does. They are essentially allies, and here is Mycroft egging them on.

Yeah, but social media with its algorithms has put Qanon in the White House, a significant percentage of people who believ the last election was stolen and brought a riotous mob to the Capital.

Authoritarians use social media to attack opponents that pave the way for criminal charges.

it has significantly changed things.

Now they know how it was to openly oppose Hitler back in the day.

So what's the answer...throwing up our hands, sucking it up and accepting the end of the democratic republic? The people who aided and abetted a criminal, liar, bully are now afraid of him? Too effing bad. They took an oath to the Constitution and they need to uphold it.

Yeah, that's not happening.

I hate to say it, but our best hope is Trump tanking the economy and the voters turning on the GOP.

If Hitler had had social media, he'd have conquered the west. Right-wing authoritarians are here and everywhere else.

There is nothing wrong with being afraid of Trump's retribution.

But to succumb to those fears is unforgiveable...especially when you represent an entire state.

When Cheney was exiled from the GOP as it transitioned into the Trumplican Cucks Party, she clearly took all the integrity and balls they had with her.
