"Trump hasn’t made his 2024 bid official. He’s expected to make a decision after the 2022 midterms. But he has been building a campaign-in-waiting that is already laying groundwork, and the question of a running mate is surfacing with increasing frequency. ...Veepstakes speculation rose among insiders who saw him interact recently with South Carolina Sen. Tim Scott and former Secretary of State Mike Pompeo at his Mar-a-Lago club. “They’re all begging me. They all come here,” Trump boasted to one adviser, who shared the account anonymously with POLITICO.

...Those familiar with Trump’s thinking say his prospective vice president selection would likely draw from three general lanes of candidates: women, conservatives of color or a trusted adviser — or a “consigliere,” as one adviser described it.

...Longtime Trump adviser Roger Stone said the shadow presidential campaigns from Scott and so many others double as a sort of vice-presidential tryout for Trump. “This is an audition. And Trump is paying attention,” Stone said. “There’s no question that people running for president are really running for vice president all the time. The key is to make it look like you’re not running for vice president.”"

Should the Republicans forgo a primary and anoint Trump candidate? Do they have a choice? Do they want a choice?

HAHAHAHHA. Begging.

I voted for The Donald and wish he were still President. (He would have surely nudged Dr. F. to retire.)

But I hope that he does not run again.

Some say he is just talking that way to raise funds.

The Republicans should help heal this nation by running people such as Ms. Halley and Senator Scott.

I want to hear what he says if he loses the primary.

Even Republicans are divided on Trump and he's toxic for anybody else. So, let him enjoy the "begging"

Who is kidding who? Trump's ego couldn't stand another loss in politics, he won't run. Instead he'll try to play kingmaker.

Trump's ego didn't suffer a loss, it suffered a stolen election; a scenario that he may believe has been remedied by state laws that go as far as to let state legislatures overturn actual vote results. His ego may believe that he's got his bases covered this time. I still give Trump at least a 50/50 chance to run again.

He's working VERY hard to assure that he will win no matter what.

and how would Nikki and Tim "heal this nation"?
😁🍿
I'm gonna guess
- resume stacking the courts with partisan judges groomed to be partisans in the judiciary
- tax cuts that primarily benefit the wealthy/corporations
- Aggressively assisting corporations and big energy in money grabs/land grabs, polluting, etc.
- pay lip service to white nationalists, gun owners, evangelicals

What they won't do:
- they won't do comprehensive immigration reform despite crying about it 24/7
- help the working class/middle class in a significant way
- stop the spiraling of our monumentally expensive health insurance costs
- Anything significantly positive for the nation as a whole

Really though...what do Republicans have to run on policy wise? They are a sham party just in it for the power/money.

If he runs (I give it a 10% chance at best) he will lose and he will yet again claim the election was stolen

Well, laughter is supposed to be good for your health.

And the nation would no doubt be doing a lot of collective laughing at either of those two republican clowns...

I already laughed at the idea that two people who SEEMINGLY oppose abortion rights, oppose equal rights for sexual orientation and want the ACA totally repealed could ever "heal the nation"

nobody has to be FOR abortion rights, equal rights and the ACA but being oppossed to them and wanting the ACA replead is no way to "heal" the nation

just a guess but infringing on and removing woman's equal, civil and human rights, infringing on and removing the equal rights of gays and removing the healthcare of 20 million Americans wouldn't be very healing

lots but not popular and reality-based issues that won't get them ostracised by other congress members and extremists unfortunately

EVERYDAY people right left and center agree or partially agree on a good bit ... .
unfortunately, that doesn't matter to congress . . false narratives, false boogie men and distractions to keep the power are what does

😁🍿
They are quiet-spoken and courteous people.

They would appeal to Dems and Repubs and Independents who are looking for middle-of-the-road federal leaders.

The only candidate who wouldn't have to beg is Mike Lindell, the pillow man.

Isn't he the guy that will soon be on the janitorial staff of "Dominion Voting Machine and Pillow Company"?

I have great respect for the Republican Party.------I only wish it still existed. I have no idea who these sad, characterless people are who support Trump for the sake of power.....
