‘I’ve never missed a vote’: 95-year-old World War II Veteran says his mail-in ballot application has been denied twice due to new requirements

So what’s the problem?

The problem for the AG will be arguing to a federal judge that this is having no impact on voters... The DOJ and others filed a lawsuit back in December over these laws...

I find it odd this veteran hasn’t moved since registering in the 40’s?

Depends on definition of impact. It’s not wide spread enough to be an issue is my guess

The moronic veteran had to renew his license more than a few times and he's too ****ing stupid to realize the the Texas DMV can update your voter status in seconds?
Let me tell you what happened to me last week.

I tried to register with ID.ME last week. For those that don't know what ID.ME is, it is a website that once you register with them, they virtually guarantee that you are who you say you are to all government sites.

It so happens that I have a two-word last name (like Van Halen for example) and my social security and my passport has the correct spelling but for some reason my driver's license and many of my credit cards are spelled like a one-word name (like this: VanHalen, with no space between the words)..

I tried for close to an hour to register and I was unable to do so. I had to supply two means of identity and I did by supplying my social security number and my passport, which are both spelled correctly, but I still was unable to do it. It said that the names did not match. I finally gave up as it was too much of a hassle to register with ID.me and not really necessary as I have never had a problem anywhere before. Nonetheless, I can certainly see that in a State like Texas, where they are trying to restrict voter registration, something like this could happen.

These days most everything I use, including my driver's license, is my two-word name being seen as one.

This is a perfect example of how something like this could be used to stop people from registering to vote and the hassle of trying to correct something like this can be overwhelming to someone, especially someone that doesn't have the time, who doesn't have the knowledge, or who wants to vote but is not willing to go out of his way for his "one" vote. Nonetheless, get enough of these kinds of identity problems that are not really an identity problem and it could be enough to turn an election.

I think that what these States are doing is "manipulating the system" for their benefit. I think it is sickening.

The ghost of FDR came to him one night. FDR said
"Thanks for voting for me, son. Now I don't really like these people that currently call themselves Democrats, but son, they need all the help they can get! Have you seen that idiot they voted into my office?
Anyway, this is a good opportunity for a little positive propaganda.
You know what to do."

Hahaha 😁

Registration in 1940 is not necessarily lifetime registration. Texas is not obligated to stick to 1940 regulations. And what is so difficult about providing his social security number, drivers license number or state ID number?
He's already done it twice. They won't accept it.

it is not having any impact on voters The man simply needs to re-register to vote. It's really quite simple. I first registered to vote in 1972. I certainly do not expect that registration to still be in force. It's just a case of democrats in a desperate search for any inconvenience related to the new laws.

No he has not. His daughter simply attempted to update the information on his 1940 registration. That is not re-registering. A new registration is quite simple.

Why would you find that odd? Plenty of people live in houses they grew up in...

No. The purpose of the new laws is to stop the Democrats from cheating. Plain and simple

Wait. Then the law does nothing to stop Republicans from cheating? :giggle:

Your assumption that only Democrat's cheat is interesting, but biased.

Can we now dispense with the bullshit that this change in Texas voting law was easy to comply with?

Decades later, the vet fears Texas’ new election law, SB1, could prevent him from voting for the first time in his life.

Per law, Thompson must either provide part of his social security number or his driver’s license number that matches his registration record with the county or state.

He registered to vote in the 1940′s and they didn’t require that,” said Thompson’s daughter, Delinda Holland.

Since Holland can’t meet the new requirement, his mail-in ballot application was denied twice. The veteran said Harris County election officials never notified him and he had to call to find out both times.

“There’s gonna be a lot of people not gonna vote,” Thompson said. “If I hadn’t have called in about mine, people wouldn’t have known.”

Thompson’s daughter, Holland, who has only missed voting in one bond election herself, said she’s even tried contacting the county and state Secretary of State’s Office to add her dad’s license number to his registration file online. She said she discovered there’s not actually a way to have that done.

Yeah these guys never notify people when they try to purge voter rolls. Thats a huge problem.

Yeah, none at all..

Yeah, none at all..

Wah!

And I’m sure Texas Republicans are facing the same issue as the Democrat veteran. Do what’s required or choose not to vote.

Who gives a shit which party the voters who are being DENIED the right vote are with...

They are basically saying: "Wah! Wah! I have been inconvenienced."

You know what federal judges call being inconvenienced? They call it a violation of your right to vote..

No, they are CHOOSing not to vote. Follow the process or don’t vote.

LOL... Look at all the "constitutionalists" covering for the state denying the right to vote... How many more times will Texas need to get its ass kicked in court?

Has to be fake news the voter suppression is supposed to be about minorities not voting this dude just hasn’t shown his White Privilege card yet

Some call it denying votes. Others call it strengthening voter security
