The violent Jan. 6, 2021, attack on Congress, meant to prevent the certification of President Biden’s election, was the clearest manifestation of this movement, but it has continued since then. Hundreds of elected Republican officials around the country falsely claim that the 2020 election was rigged. Some of them are running for statewide offices that would oversee future elections, potentially putting them in position to overturn an election in 2024 or beyond.

“There is the possibility, for the first time in American history, that a legitimately elected president will not be able to take office,” said Yascha Mounk, a political scientist at Johns Hopkins University who studies democracy.

The twin threats to US democracy are: Socialism and Democrats.

Not necessarily in that order.

I am certainly not a student of American history.

But I think disputed elections are not exactly new in American history.

In the 19th century, there was one Presidential election in which the "winner" was often referred to as "His Fraudulency."

In more modern times, some people feel that there was some electoral dishonesty in Illinois and Texas in 1960. But Richard Nixon declined to pursue the matter. (The Donald was not so gracious!!!)

The Dems, of course, are preparing for some defeats, so they are just hyperventilating.

A good excuse is that the Elephants have stolen the election from them.

Hopefully, the Donkeys will not storm the Capitol (in D.C. or in their states).

They are so dangerous, yet the Democrats helped them win the nomination in the primary.

Trump already attempted one violent coup. We know he is planning a second attempt.

Not even true.

Democrats are the threat to US democracy!
I'll give you one example - the most recent one I can think of - how Democrats undermine your democratic system:
ELECTION INTERFERENCE

Democrats spend tens of millions amplifying far-right candidates in nine states

Biden Denounces MAGA Threat While Democrats Spend Millions Helping Them Win

How do the losing Democrats who ran against those winning MAGA candidates feel, I wonder?
How about their CONSTITUENTS?

Come November - I do hope it backfires - BIG TIME.

No different than Republicans doing the exact same thing. No matter how large a font you use, it doesn't change the fact that you're a theocrat.
And theocracy is 100% incompatible with any form of democracy whatsoever, it is a weapon aimed at the very heart of the democratic process itself.

Have you heard of "operation chaos"?

Not really true. 2000 is an especially clear case of the winning candidate not being elected, but there are others where there were real problems with how the person won. But none quite match this situation of hundreds of candidates basically promising to steal the election if they are put in charge of the results, or the 2020 effort by hundreds of Republicans to vote to steal that election.

How do you feel about democrats spending 55 million $ this primary cycle to get so called "MAGA Republicans", you know the ones you and Joe refer to as Threats to Democracy, nominated for the general elections in November. I'd say it's election tampering. I'm sure you will disagree but it's far short of ethical. I've heard even a good number of democrats who think it's a bad idea.
IF those MAGA Republicans win the general, isn't that going to be a black eye on democrats who helped?

It is a strategy that I really have no comment on. I don't work for the DNC.

It is also possible that a meteor will destroy planet earth. Which is more probable?

First, I doubt the numbers you cite are accurate given that little of what you typically claim has basis in fact.
But beyond that, are you telling me you think it's a new concept for one side in a political struggle to prop up the unelectable candidate from the other side? And you call that election tampering?

Have you heard of "operation chaos"?
This was an inevitable consequence of that strategy. "Do you want that Super-sized?"

It's low-rent, low-brow, done by the low-info; but ethics aside, I get the strategy. Support the guy now you think will be easier to beat later. Pretty straight forward and doesn't involve Russians this time.

Just curious...

How many Democrats do you suppose were running in those Republican Party primaries?

I didnt make myself clear. I don't want it, at all, but tried reminding @tosca1 that it was a conservative who openly rallied for it.

Interesting article. And yes, I agree those two things are threats. So is money in politics and the corporatization of the government.
