And for people interested in listening to a nice mix of another about 1800 songs can listen to Radio 2 or you can watch and listen on this link

Some of the songs that can be heard in the next few hours are:

Davy's On The Road Again Manfred Mann's Earth band
Let's Go Crazy Prince
Empire State Of Mind Alicia Keys
Ain't Nobody Home B.B. King
P.Y.T. (Pretty Young Thing) Michael Jackson
Woman John Lennon
Oh, Pretty Woman Roy Orbison
Legs ZZ Top
Babooshka Kate Bush
Song Sung Blue Neil Diamond
Promised You A Miracle Simple Minds

And many many many more. The list and when they will be played can be found here.

I will be putting some of the songs that have already been played on this page. Have fun everybody. The list of songs goes on 24/7 until the 31st of December, midnight Dutch time.

While it is still to come in a few days, I just wanted to start with Kate & Anna Mcgarrigle - Complainte pour ste catherine, a strange but nice song from 1976.

At number 2000, the last song on the list is one of my favorite songs, and yes, it is the clean version where virtually nothing can be seen with regards to nudity that is in the uncensored version of this song, if you want to watch that one you are going to have to search for that one ;)

It is the Dandy Warhols with Bohemian like you

at number 1959 you can find another one of my favorites, Billy Joel (big time fan, even though I am a metal head) with for the longest time

Maybe you can pick your favorite song from the list and post it here (hopefully with the reason why it is your favorite song).

I will give you another one of mine, the Doors with Roadhouse blues. The doors are one of my easy listening options that does not seem to offend many people ;)

It has some nice guitar work, great singing and as said, who can dislike a bit of blues

the 2nd day has come and gone and it is time to post a few of the gems of today. I am going to start with a really weird lady singer, Babooshka from Kate Bush on number 1726:

Last edited:
another little bit of the Brits here with some good old fashioned Ska music on number 1699 of the list of the best 2000 songs ever, Madness with Embarrassment

A lot of Elvis and a good deal of a Dutch DJ and you have got the number 1640 Elvis vs Junkie XL with a little less conversation:

I'm just not a fan of most popular music. Nothing against it but at 60 years old, prefer to hear more imaginative and 'different' types of music.

I really don't want to hear the same Doors, Beatles, Billy Joel, etc song for the 500th time. Way, way too much top 10 Am radio in these types of 'best song' compilations.

Best songs really means most popular. That's fine but...yawn

We may have been occupied for 5 years by the Germans but even they make the top 2000, with a 1980s super hit from the Spider Murphy Gang with Skandal um Rosie (scandal about Rosie), at number 1532:

True, but a song like Complainte pour ste catherine is not your regular run of the mill the 500th time kinda song. And as said, there are quite a few gems among the most popular songs (and yes, that is what people seem to think are the best songs) which are not songs that have been played to death on the radio. In fact, a lot of these songs seem to have been thrown from (at least in the Netherlands) from the "pop" stations.

At number 1481 you can find "Watskeburt from the Jeugd van tegenwoordig" (youth of today):

At number 1440 we can find the song from a former member of a boyband, a pretty man that was struck down with Aids and died not long after the following recording. It is Rene Klijn and Paul de Leeuw (the chubby guy who does the back up vocals, a big TV presenter in the Netherlands) and the song is Mr. Blue

Rock And Roll.

What insanity.

Reminds me of Mick Jagger -- 72 1/2 years old and still rocking !!

Personally I have always been more of a Beatles guy, nothing wrong with the music of the Stones but they went on too long and are just a shadow of their former selves. Not unlike this band of Dutch rockers, which biggest hits still have to come but still, a great band.

It is 2 versions of one and the same song, first the original from way back when (1969) and then the 2006 version of the same song by the same band, at number 301 "Another 45 miles" by the Golden Earring (and I like the 2nd better, much more rocking which is the way an old hard rocker like me likes his music ;) )

I'm having some problems finding the list of songs.
Could be my computer............oh, yeah......."Song Sung Blue" sucks.

I find most Beatles shlock. Bubblegum music ( She loves you, ya, ya, ya) or Faked cool and artsy. Some ok songs but but mostly jingles and a bit pretentious lyrics later on. Perhaps I just get tired of hearing the same stuff over and over.

The Stones are just a true rock band. Good but not better than most others...Just, like the Beatles, more famous. The right bands at the right time. Not the best bands at the wrong time.

Never heard of them. But not unusual (double negative as the British often say -- in the USA we are taught in grammar school not to use double neg's) that a local group in Holland would still be loved and popular there.

California had lots of local groups made up of local stars --

- Mike Love of The Beach Boys

- Grace Slick of Jefferson Airplane/Starship

- Ray Manzarek of The Doors

- Crosby Stills Nash & Young

- Carlos Santana

Many of these still make local appearances at pubs in the wine country and sing and play.
