    Pay During Government Shutdown

That's great, in theory. I personally dont want people who are supposed to be making big decisions that effect my life to be worrying about a second job.

Alaska Governor Refuses to Enact 'ObamaCare'

I'd say that if the constitution is preventing the state from providing the basic necessities to those that need them but cannot access them, then it isnt working. Ok, I know low-standards is great for feeling accomplished, but let's focus on something a little more productive. If your only...

Is the government really that intrusive?

The majority of those things are done for YOUR benefit and are things people will bitch about not having done. Consider that the vast majority of safety regulation for almost anything was put into place because the public demanded it in response to a problem (real or perceived). I receive...

Alaska Governor Refuses to Enact 'ObamaCare'

Erm...that...was my whole point. If something works, great, keep it. Once it STOPS working, then we need something else. There is no reason we cant have something that outlines our rights AND makes provisions for the welfare of the citizenry.

Is the government really that intrusive?

I think people grossly over-estimate the actual capabilities of the government to read/record everything.

Is the government really that intrusive?

I agree the Patriot Act is wrong and I dont support it in the least. However my question was with regards to people's everyday lives. My point is that the vast majority of us have little to no intrusive contact with the government on even a semi-regular basis.

Alaska Governor Refuses to Enact 'ObamaCare'

As costs rose, that number was shrinking rapidly. Additionally, the economic impact of having tons of medical debt around the working poor is pretty serious. People dont spend money when they're fighting off thousands of dollars of un-preventable debt. I'm sorry to burn your toast, but the...

Alaska Governor Refuses to Enact 'ObamaCare'

It's obvious that our prior system of healthcare is unworkable. I dont think anyone can effectively argue that the healthcare system we had prior to any sort of reform was in any way acceptable. We may need to consider making exceptions for the greater good. Stubbornly clinging to a broken...

Is the government really that intrusive?

Traffic control cameras are intrusive? The city should know whats being built and where. It makes city planning a lot easier and helps keep people from building sloppy buildings that inevitably fall down or hurt someone then someone goes bitching to the city asking why they weren't regulating...

House votes to defund Planned Parenthood

EXACTLY! I pay for those roads because I benefit from their use. YOU pay for Planned Parenthood because you benefit from it's use. You dont pay for abortions. Federal money is not used to provide such services per already existing federal law. Then I would expect you, of all people, to...

Alaska Governor Refuses to Enact 'ObamaCare'

Because I see access to basic medical care for all people that live in a country as a fundamental responsibility of the state.

So you want to make politics even MORE of a game for the rich?

House votes to defund Planned Parenthood

This, to me, is the essence of a cornerstone problem with our political structure; you cant see beyond your ****ing nose. You are standing on a bridge that you want to take down and you start hacking at the ropes before stopping to realize you're standing on it. You want to yank funding from an...

House votes to defund Planned Parenthood

Can you substantiate that this is the case? Im sure there are women who use it this way, but I'd like to see proof that there are "so many". Because you BENEFIT from it. You dont have to. It's none of your business what their story is, rape or not. Should I be able to demand details of where...

Is the government really that intrusive?

I hear people complaining about this left and right (literally and figuratively), that the government is sooooo intrusive and people cant wait to trot out some 1984 references whenever something doesn't go their way. I was thinking about it the other day. I have probably a lot more interaction...
