Field Marshal and comedian Volodimir Zelensky is warning that if he's not given admission into NATO, that he will acquire nuclear weapons:

Zelensky Says Ukraine ‘Will Seek Nuclear Weapons’ if It Cannot Join NATO

Volodymyr Zelensky appeared to suggest Ukraine could seek nuclear weapons unless it is given Nato membership.

The Ukrainian president told European Union leaders during a speech in Brussels that Kyiv needed a strong deterrent against Russia.

“Either Ukraine will have nuclear weapons, which will serve as protection, or it must be part of some kind of alliance. Apart from Nato, we do not know of such an effective alliance,” Mr Zelensky said.

Quite a desperate fantasizer.

It's one thing to acquire some nuclear material and/or components on the black market, but it's quite another thing to have a credible nuclear deterrent through a nuclear arsenal - especially sitting next to the world's most heavily armed nuclear power.

Who's going to give them their nukes -- Brits, I presume?

Oh well, if you got to do then do what you got to do.

Meanwhile, I say "HELL NO!" to allowing Ukraine to join NATO.

Does anyone want to get the USA into an active war with Russia?!?

**** him, we gave him our most advanced weapons and it's never enough - so go ahead and build your nukes
for Great Buddha's sake never negotiate!! Peace could break out!! *and that would mean the loss of billions of nation building money*

Well, I do like it when bullies are stood up to.

The United States never should have aided and abetted the fascists who took over Kyiv. We traded one corrupt Russian-freindly government, for one corrupt Western-freindly government. The former wasn't making war on anyone. The latter decided that ethnic cleansing was the way to go, so now here we are.

The United States should triple weapons to Ukraine and stop giving them to Netanyahu.

Nice sentiment.

However, I don't consider it the responsibility of the United States to act as the world's policeman.

The United Nations is supposed to deal with this kind of thing. But thanks to the veto power given to the USA, China, Russia, France, and the United Kingdom, the U.N. rarely acts on such issues.

LOL Nuclear power reactors produce plutonium and Ukraine has several. They can have a atomic bomb in a month if they want. They will not nuke Russia unless the west stops giving them the weapons they need to defeat Russia. You better hope they don't stop or you can kiss St. Petersburg goodbye. What is important is that Zelensky is making it clear the Russia cannot win this war no matter what the west does.

Where is that happening? The Ukrainians are certainly policing imperialist Russia though. They have already eliminated 600,000 of the invaders.

Russia is the most corrupt nation in europe and Ukraine has said no to their corruption and then Russia invaded them. The Ukrainians are committed to democracy and to being a member of the EU and NATO.

Wow. Can you get any more simplistic, and still be wrong? Ukraine was indiscriminately shelling the eastern provinces for years before Russia invaded. You've forgotten that, haven't you? Do you even remember the airliner that was shot down?

You mean when Russia was only funding separatists within Ukraine rather than invading it?

The Russian started their invasion of Crimea and the western provinces in 2014. You have forgotten that? Yes I remember that the Russians shot down a commercial airliner over Ukraine. Despicable behavior don't you agree?

An infamous Russian unit that downed a civilian plane in 2014 was active in Ukraine

It was the 53rd Anti-Aircraft Missile Brigade, among the most notorious — and wanted — units in the Russian military.

The 53rd is best known for its role in shooting down Malaysia Airlines Flight MH17 in 2014 as it flew over Ukraine en route from Amsterdam to Kuala Lumpur. All 298 passengers and crew died.

"You can regard the downing of Flight MH17 [as the] Dutch 9/11," said Brechtje van de Moosdijk, a spokesperson for the Joint Investigation Team exploring the civilian airline attack. "When it happened, it was a hot summer's day, July 17, 2014. Everybody was happy and on holidays or lying in the garden or at the swimming pool. And then this plane was downed."

And the 53rd has been an international pariah ever since, at least as much as war crimes investigators are concerned. The fact that the unit is operating in Ukraine still today? It's like the Russian president taunting the rest of the world.

"This unit, after it shot down Malaysia Airlines Flight 17... did not face any retribution. They did not face any justice for the crimes they committed," said George Barros, a Russia analyst at the Institute for the Study of War. "And unfortunately, this is very much systematic in the way that the Russian Federation has been able to violate international law."

Yes, the west blamed the Russians. I notice you chose NPR for your source. That's cool. But there are other sources, with other points of view.

Similarly, everyone blamed Russia for blowing up that gas line, remember? The west agreed, it had to be Russia. But, no.

That is what the international commission that investigated the incident found. You only take the Russian side and they are liars. Putin blew up the pipeline when he invaded Ukraine. It was as good as dead at that moment and who set the charges is irrelevant.

What was the purpose of the Budapest Memorandum? Which signees did not hold up their end of the agreement?

I think they have some already. All those USSR nukes stored in Ukraine all those years and the lax security and accounting during the final days of the USSR, I would be surprised if they do not. Most of the USSR's nuclear scientists were Ukrainian.

What was the purpose of the Budapest Memorandum? Which signees did not hold up their end of the agreement?
What was the purpose of the Minsk Agreement? For one side to re-arm so that it could re-attempt war thru ethnic cleansing.
See Zelensky's interview in Der Spiegel, where he admits Minsk was a ruse he participated in.

Another crap sourced, lie filled @sanman troll thread.

Zelensky was clearly speaking hyperbolically.

Ukraine doesn’t possess the material nor the means of building nuclear weapons.

A lot of people (particularly the parochial sort) would yell ans scream if anyone ever suggested that the United Nations should have its own armed forces.

And then turn right around and condemn the UN for NOT being the world’s actual policeman with an armed forces that it doesn’t have.

Good thing you don’t get a vote.

Finland shares a much longer border boundary with Russia than Ukraine, and Putin didn’t do squat when they joined NATO last year?

What makes you wrongly believe that once Ukraine is able to meet NATO membership requirements (yet to be determined by member nations) that Russia will go to war?
