Pessimism over the inflation outlook soared again as one-year inflation expectations jumped to 7.3% — the highest since 1981 — from 6.5% the month prior. Just four months ago, consumers had expected inflation of 3.3% over the next year.
"One gets the sense that the American household is under rising stress and this survey captures what is clearly an elevated discontent of the consumer," RSM chief economist Joe Brusuelas wrote following the release.

We've now experienced five straight months of steeply declining Consumer Sentiment, and are now flirting with entering record low territory.

The numbers would seem to speak for themselves. Consumers are in an extremely dour mood.

The silver lining is that once Consumer Sentiment drops to a record low, the only way is up.

Thank you, Donald J Trump.

MAGA.

Trump could oversee the largest proportional increase in consumer confidence in history!

If we go from 1% to 20%, that's like a 2000% increase!

Who else has done such a thing as boosting consumer confidence by 2000%?

And in an economy where 2/3 is driven by consumer spending this is not a good thing for the future

Which might be why, except for the MAR "consumer tariff rush", we've had disappointing retail sales.

Whenever I see what appears to be negative MAGA-related news, I know I can always count on you - BitterPill - to set me right!

Agreed.

Egg prices have already dropped 97 or 98% since Trump took office, so once Consumer Sentiment recovers from its Biden-induced depression, and it will, even 3000% is a possibility.

MAGA.

Sounds like a good time to raise taxes and cut budgets. 👍

MAGA is going to show us how well they learn from consequences.

I am always at your service, Chomsky, and while my math is very poor, percentages are in my wheelhouse since they are ideal for constructing a dubious narrative as Simon W. Moon can attest.

That, if true, would be extraordinarily painful for fixed income seniors like myself.

I’ve been on a fixed income pension since Governor Christie lied to every public employee in NJ and told us the breaching of our contracts and suspension of our COLAs was about saving our pension funds.

Turns out the was a state statute called the Pension Adjustment Act of 1958 that clearly stated COLA was paid for by our employers annually and not our pension funds. Suspension of our cost of living increases saved not one fund a single cent. It was all a lie.

What it did was save our employers, politicians, from having to make those annual payments they’d been not making, submitting IOUs building large indebtedness to us, their employees. It saved them from having to make choices. Like raise revenue or, god forbid, cut back on graft to meet their contractual and statutory obligations to us.

I’ve been getting ripped off every pension check since 2011. A little more every month.

Not a fan.

I hear we buy too many dolls and pencils as it is.

I still have many neglected dolls left-over from my childhood, though none are Barbies, and I don't know if I even have a pencil in the house, dozens of pens for sure.

What Trump's Buddha-like, two-doll comment is saying is that desire is a source of suffering.

Once you give both Trump and Buddha their due by rejecting desire and instead acquire a red hat, you will probably find peace.

MAGA.

and instead acquire a red hat,
Funny you should bring that up, my suppliers are having some trouble getting my shipment sent out at the old price when I was ABSOLUTELY promised that they were exempt from this red tape.....what is going on and who do I contact at the White House?

I suppose the good news is "sentiments" does not necessarily imply "fait accompli"

My HVAC contractor not being able to give me a firm "holdable" quote, was the final nail in the coffin of my doing a Spring project I was considering.

Now in all fairness, I was already leaning towards holding-off 'till next year. But the contractor's inability to provide a firm quote that I could hold - sealed the deal!

I'll assume it is about the price of the main ac compressor/evap unit, what price change is he seeing?

Yes. And not just the outside stuff, but the inside air-handlers - too.

He basically said he could quote for that day, but only for that day. Whatever it comes to when the time comes, is what it will be.

I felt I was being pressured, which of course drew me back from going forward.

I thought republicans were dancing in the streets with joy from trump's performance so far? At least according to some on here.

Which is why I suspect they're devoid in these threads.

Reality is contrary to their narrative, and difficult to reconcile.

It virtually "is" as low as Biden's. There's no "almost" about it!
Then that's even worse! Glad neither of these guys will ever be in office again.

The large Republican consumer tax increases and the chaos surrounding this administration will do that.
