Xi in San Francisco for APEC

President Xi arrived in San Francisco for the meeting of APEC, the Asia Pacific Economic Cooperation forum, on Tuesday. Observations so far of the gathering are the cleaner streets in the city, which to date have been resistant to such, the number of Silicon Valley executives vying for a seat at the table with Xi, and the warm reception he received from Governor Newsom and later President Biden. It will be interesting to see what results come about from this meeting. Your thoughts?

Cheap shot at San Francisco, there's some shocking news that companies pursue profits rather than take moral stands, and that's how politics and diplomacy work, there are warm greetings at such meetings. I can show you Netenyahu being very friendly to Arafat when they met before likely assassinating him.

This is sort of how it works. Economics go on. US companies often tried to keep doing business with Nazi Germany a long time, operated under Putin until forced not to with sanctions after the bigger Ukraine invasion, etc.

I wonder if Biden will be as friendly with Xi as Trump was with Xi and Putin and Rocket Man. Trump only wasn't friendly with the leaders of traditional allies. Those he could get quite abusive towards.

I think this country did a good job of showing respect (hosting this meeting at a posh mansion) to a very powerful foreign leader. It's in our country's best interest to work with China where we can, poking each others hornets nest benefits no one. There is much to be said for maintaining decorum. I hope the private talks between these 2 world leaders was productive. I guess we will soon know.

I think this country did a good job of showing respect (hosting this meeting at a posh mansion) to a very powerful foreign leader. It's in our country's best interest to work with China where we can, poking each others hornets nest benefits no one. There is much to be said for maintaining decorum. I hope the private talks between these 2 world leaders was productive. I guess we will soon know.

Well, we already know that Biden stepped on his Johnson by calling Xi a dictator. A very true statement but a diplomatic slap to your favored guest at the party. Antony Blinken just watched a full year of diplomatic wrangling with China go down the toilet. Nothing like having your boss chop your legs out from under all of your and your staff’s hard work on his behalf. Biden is mentally crippled.
