I'm surprised they haven't tried to ban martial arts yet, honestly. 'Cuz it's like, dangerous 'n stuff.
No, it is actually the opinion of the people who wrote the Bill of Rights.
The fact that there is still a government capable of tyranny and the fact that there is still a segment of society that is more than willing to victimize other people makes their mindset very relevant to today.Funnily enough, those same guys had a lot of other ideas that I find just as crazy, so that's not about to sway me. Enough of them believed in slavery to keep it from even really being addressed in the Constitution. They also didn't believe that a woman was the equal of a man. Look, the foudning father's were some great thinkers and had great ideas, but we really can't use their 18th century mindset to judge every aspect of our 21st century society.
The gun is not the perpetrator of the crimes to which you refer; it is merely a catalyst in the hands of people with an ill intent. And for the record, I have never been the victim of a violent crime, but I have lost two friends to violent crime. They were both shot, by a perfectly legal gun.
Only the "good guys" obey the law, so the only people who would even think about handing over their firearms are the ones who respect the law to begin with. You seem to be thinking I only want to take guns away from the "good" guys. I think we should do our best to keep guns away from anyone who isn't authorized to handle one.

The best way to keep firearms out of the hands of people disposed to possess bad intentions is to incarcerate those people.
I don't think you quite grasp the concept of a message board ...Well, I'm not going to argue it anymore. You're free to think my opinion is insane, as it seems you do. But this is an ideological disagreement, you have no more hope of changing my opinion than I do of changing yours (not that that was ever my goal).

Im guessing both of your friends were actually SHOT by a PERSON. Were those people of sufficient criminal intent that a knife or a bat might have done the same job? Or were your two friends gunned down by honest, hard working, law abiding citizens overwhelmed by their evil firearms? Come...there has to be more to the story...
The only goal I had when posting in this thread was registering my opinion, not debating it. I know that this is an issue where protracted debate isn't going to accomplish anything. Of course I realize this is a debate board, but I can choose which issues I want to debate and which I don't. My registering my opinion and then not sticking around to debate it in no way hinders the quality of debate of the thread overall.
Surely you've been in arguments like this before? Where you get nowhere. Don't you find it tiring? I do.
