The US Embassy is right across the street from Parliament. I don't think Carney wants him that close.Perhaps he can get a job in the Trump admin. Given the US's current political climate, Poilievre would make an excellent US ambassador to Canada.
Well, he sure seems to know his buzzwords.Pierre seems to know a lot about bees. Is there an opening at the USDA?
Ladies and gentlemen the man we're hoping won't be our Prime Minister Monday.
Nothing much the Conservatives are doing is working so this weekend they're running 'dark visions of Canada under the Liberals' ads to try to scare us.I don't see how he wins. I think Carney's got this.
It ain't over 'til the fat lady sings.I don't see how he wins. I think Carney's got this.
Perhaps Rocky or Bullwinkle would be more appropriate?Perhaps he can get a job in the Trump admin. Given the US's current political climate, Poilievre would make an excellent US ambassador to Canada.
Naah, Boris and Natasha were busily making fools of themselves at the Pope's funeral and performing really impotent stuff like searching out flagpole locates on the Whitehouse lawn saying they've needed them for two hunnert' years while seemingly unaware of that huge pole with a big azz "old glory" right on the freak'n roof.Perhaps Rocky or Bullwinkle would be more appropriate?![]()

Carney was referring to China’s continuing interference in Canadian elections. While doing my morning news reading today, this was in my newsfeed - about Carney. I know next to nothing about this man expected to win Canada's election this week, so this was informational to me. It's from NYT, so I suppose some might hit a paywall. I didn't, but maybe I haven't tried to open a NYT article in long enough - such that I didn't hit a paywall this time. I'll quote some various paragraphs from the sort of long article, in case others can't open it and have some curiosity in what it is about.
"Asked to name the biggest threat to Canada’s security during an election debate, Mark Carney, the country’s prime minister and Liberal Party leader running to win a full term, gave a surprising answer: “China.”
This is what you call "nefarious"?"Of the various accusations leveled against Mr. Carney as he tries to lead his party to victory in Monday’s election, claims about his allegedly nefarious links to China have been the most persistent."
"In 2020 Mr. Carney became board chairman at Brookfield Asset Management, a Canadian investment giant and an investor in China’s property and renewable energy markets."
"He visited China at least twice last year."
Investing in the China market is somehow a bad thing? Every western country including the US has been doing it for decades. The executives in the room said they would, “unswervingly continue to explore the China market, and develop a long-term close cooperative relationship with China,” according to state media coverage of the meeting.
Carney is no longer with Brookfield. I guess Pierre didn't get the memo. The Conservative Party of Canada has framed a loan Brookfield received in November from the state-owned Bank of China for its property investments in Shanghai as evidence that Mr. Carney is beholden to Beijing."
Makes sense to me especially considering China is a more reliable trading partner than the US.“I am very cleareyed about China,” Mr. Carney told reporters this month. “It is the second-largest economy in the world, it is our second-largest trading partner, it is also — and I’ll use my words carefully given that I am briefed on these matters — one of the largest threats with respect to foreign interference.”
I know next to nothing about this man expected to win Canada's election this week,
Bit of a cv for people who don't know who he is...
Born: NWT
Citizenship: Canada/UK/Ireland
Age: 59
Party: Liberal
Education: Harvard (BA), Oxford (DPhil)
Paychecks:
Goldman Sachs
Government of Canada Finance Dept
Governor, Bank of Canada
Governor, Bank of England
As Bank of Canada Governor he was hailed for successfully steering our economy through the recession. He was appointed by the Conservative PM at the time.
He was the first foreign born Bank of England Governor in that institution's history.
Among his many positions since leaving England he's currently Chair of the Board of Bloomberg.
Me? Lol, no, I've never met the NYT authors (one from Canada and one from Hong Kong) who wrote the article. This is what you call "nefarious"?
The TV ad blitz during the hockey playoff is insane. And they're the worst ads ever -- the 2 old geezers playing golf, and the one I love best, is showing Carney to be evil with red and orange distorted overlays. It's desperate and laughable.Nothing much the Conservatives are doing is working so this weekend they're running 'dark visions of Canada under the Liberals' ads to try to scare us.
They're one step away from hiring Freddy Krueger to frighten us away from the polling places.
I'm sure portraying boomers as grumpy old men won't help much with that particular demographic.the 2 old geezers playing golf
As the article points out Carney in his various roles had had extensive dealings with the China, valuable experience and he has his eyes wide open when it comes to China. Poilivere and his campaign , as this article points out , have been trying very hard to spin this experience into something nefarious when it isn't but it hasn't worked."Of the various accusations leveled against Mr. Carney as he tries to lead his party to victory in Monday’s election, claims about his allegedly nefarious links to China have been the most persistent."
If you read that sentence again it is not the NYT's that is suggesting this , it's Poilievre's campaign alleging it. His familiarity with China will actually be a plus because he is "eyes wide open"Me? Lol, no, I've never met the NYT authors (one from Canada and one from Hong Kong) who wrote the article
This is Scott Galloway's podcast in which he interviews Carney. Excellent and smart questions, 100% free of stupidity. We Canadians have the opportunity to elect this brilliant person to lead us into the future -- let's not blow it.
If you are interested in getting to know him watch the video in the link above. It was posted on another thread. While doing my morning news reading today, this was in my newsfeed - about Carney. I know next to nothing about this man expected to win Canada's election this week
I don't know a lot about Canada's internal politics, but it certainly isn't surprising that someone with an extensive background in business and finance would have made many trips to China. That by itself is not in any way nefarious. I have spent a lot of time in China, it isn't like traveling to Iran or North Korea. In fact, I would go so far to say that if you travel to China, you will come back thinking that it probably is not a good idea for the United States to start a unilateral trade war with them. While doing my morning news reading today, this was in my newsfeed - about Carney. In Canada’s Election, Mark Carney’s China Experience Becomes a Liability
Mark Carney, who is running to win a full term as prime minister, has years of experience dealing with Chinese businesses and leadership. It’s become fodder for his opponents.www.nytimes.com
I lived and worked in China with a US Fortune 500 company. Our China operation had Chinese investors and we also invested in Chinese companies.I don't know a lot about Canada's internal politics, but it certainly isn't surprising that someone with an extensive background in business and finance would have made many trips to China.
