What Did William Randolph Hearst Do for Cannabis Prohibition?

Now that we know a little bit about Hearst let’s look at what he did to support cannabis prohibition. For starters, William Hearst was not a friend to minorities or cannabis users. This man hated cannabis so much that he authored the iconic MJ Tax Act of 1937 that was later replaced by the Controlled Substance act of 1970. His thoughts on cannabis were that,

Strange how so many 'experts' on cannabis never used it.

There's a lesson about democracy here. About the idea of the public having more of a say, right or wrong, versus oligarchy, when the opinions of the few people like Hearst can dictate to society. There are both moral and practical issues about the difference. Should marijuana policy be set by everyone or by a rich person?
