What would satisify you. What do you ultimately want to see happen?Right after the two shootings in El Paso and Dayton we heard Trump say he would do something about gun control, mainly about background checks. Now he seems to be saying that after talking to the NRA we have enough background checks and it is all about mental illness. That does sound like the NRA's talking points. And McConnell has held up several bills that passed in the House concerning universal background checks. None of those yet have seen the light of day. So will either of the two ever do anything about the gun violence?

Of course Trump backtracks on gun reform. He lacks the courage.

FOR A moment, it seemed as though what was usually assumed in Washington could no longer be taken for granted. President Trump was promising “very meaningful background checks” in the wake of two gruesome mass shootings. He insisted that congressional Republicans would “lead the charge” for new gun legislation, which would have been a tectonic shift in the politics of guns that only sustained pressure from a figure such as Mr. Trump could possibly have produced.
Then the hope faded. Speaking to reporters on Sunday, the president cooled on background checks, insisted that he is “very concerned with the Second Amendment” and repeated shopworn Republican talking points. “It’s the people that pull the trigger. It’s not the gun that pulls the trigger,” he said. “They have bipartisan committees working on background checks and various other things. And we’ll see. I don’t want people to forget that this is a mental-health problem. I don’t want them to forget that because it is. It’s a mental-health problem.”
Reporters asked him to clarify his stance on support for universal background checks. “I’m not saying anything,” he said. “I’m saying Congress is going to be reporting back to me with ideas. And they’ll come in from Democrats and Republicans. And I’ll look at it very strongly. But just remember, we already have a lot of background checks, okay?” ...

I would like universal background checks for sure. I would like the banning of any semi-automatic that can either be converted to full auto or accept a magazine holding more than 15 rounds. That would allow hunters and those who want them for home security to have semi's if they wish and try and keep guns out of the hands of those who would use them for mass murder.
It's not a gun control issue. It's not a mental health issue. It's a culture of violence issue. And it won't be solved in one or several generations. You all just have to find ways to live with it.
A 100% ban on gun ownership.
I disagree with you but ty for giving me a straight answer.I would like universal background checks for sure. you demonstrate how little you understand about firearms with that silliness. You want to ban any firearm that accepts a magazine.

The biggest issue i have with your position is that slmost all guns are semi-automatic

No, I want to ban any weapon capable of accepting magazines larger than 15 rounds. There are many hunting rifles that have magazines holding up to but no more than 15 rounds. Right now you can buy 100 round drum magazines. Perfect for use by mass murders, just ask the guy in Dayton. I even found out you can now buy 100 round drum magazines that will fit some automatic pistols. Isn't that wonderful.
Actually not. There are lever action or bolt action rifles. There are a few pump action, but those are mostly shotguns. Until lately there were few rifles sold that were semiautomatic except hunting rifles. Lately the semi's are almost all AR-15 style which as one GOPer on line said I have hunted for 17 years and never shot 15 deer in a row.
Thank Goodness we have the NRA to counter all the knee jerk gun grabber reactions!
Hopefully, they pass a law outlawing gun control. We already have one, but I reckon we need two.
don't count the several hundred thousand MI carbines and several hundred thousand (minimum) MI Garands that our own government sold to us Civilians (I have 5 of each-most came from the Dept of Civilian marksmanship before it was converted to the private CMP by the Clinton administration) . and don't count the 20 million or so semi automatic rimfire rifles such as the Ruger 10-22 etc
Or maybe three. :lamo
Apparently your ideas do not match your name. You seem happy with all of the mass killings going on in this country. Over 250 since the first of the year. That is what you are saying with your comment. what does the NRA say, "it is the price we pay for our freedoms". Hopefully no one in your family ever has to pay that price. Do not say it will never happen to you, that is what all of the people who have been killed in these mass shootings probably said before they were shot.
That is just what the NRA and the gun makers want. Run out and buy, buy buy. I remember when Obama was elected and the NRA told you all to buy ammo before Obama took away the right. Hunters could not get ammo for hunting as you fools ran out and bought it all. Walmart actually had to put up a sign saying they were out and did not know when they would get more. The gug and ammo makers were laughing at you all the way to the bank.
