It is what they're all about after all.Alabama was given strict orders on how to redo its gerrymandered districts due to the racial overtones of the map. It failed to do so, just making the maps similar to what it had and nowhere near what was ordered by the SCOTUS. So why did Alabama do it, just to defy the court, no. The reason is that the original decision was 5-4 and now they believe that they have peeled another conservative judge from the decent side of the decision and the court will now allow them to continue to have gerrymandered districts with racial overtones. The states position is that race is not part of setting districts, only that the districts be proportional. If the court agrees, this will set the tone for all of the states presently controlled by the GOP. It will be a new er of Jim Crow type laws when it comes to gerrymandering.
The real racism is democrats gerrymandering districts to be majority minority to begin with. Harping about republicans undoing some of that is disengenuis.

Ultimately, I think AL will find a way to get the Supreme Court on its side. Its conservative majority is very hostile to voting rights.
Alabama certainly does have a past history of racism, however reapportionment should never be based on race. This is nonsense.
Defending the racist games Alabama is playing is a VERY bad look.

You apparently have never lived in the South. It is the southern way to limit or even eliminate the black voting power in the south. It is no different from the old Jim Crow laws, except the conservatives on the SCOTUS are more than willing to allow it to continue. You know, the white Christians on the SCOTUS and the one black who thinks or wishes he is white. The real racism is democrats gerrymandering districts to be majority minority to begin with. You like many have apparently never lived in the south, as you would know if you had exactly what the almost totally white Alabama legislature is doing. It is the modern version of Jim C5ow laws. Jim Crow laws used tests and poll taxes to limit the posser of the black vote, but today, Alabama is using gerrymandering. They are now pushing this to the SCOTUS again as they have learned that one of the cons on the court has decided to change his vote, which would allow Alabama to continue to use race-based gerrymandering as they allow political based gerrymandering. All of this is the SCOTUS way of keeping government, especially in the states in the hands of conservatives, even in states where the GOP is in the minority.Nobody has a “voting right” to have their congressional district become majority black, white, red or blue. If not for the fact that black folks currently vote heavily for demorats this wouldn’t be an issue.

I live in the state that is considered the most gerrymandered in the nation, Wisconsin, yes Wisconsin. With just 40% of the vote, the GOP is the majority in our state legislature and when they actually reached 45% this last election, they control over 60% of the seats in both our "house" and our Senate. Now that is what you call gerrymandering. And now they are trying to impeach the newly elected member of the state supreme court because they know she will end that kind of gerrymandering when it comes before the court. The court has been controlled by the cons for the past 15 years and they let the GOP do as they wanted. Now the court is controlled by the libs and the GOP is fighting to stop them from changing things.Nonsense.
I live in an extremely gerrymandered congressional district (TX CD-35) which has parts of 4 counties (yet no entire county) and parts of 2 cities about 80 miles apart. As a result, ’my’ congressional district has elected the newest ‘squad’ member (Greg Casar) to the House.

, you are looking at the Federal House maps. I am the one with the twisty end which was done to minimize Dem voters. I was talking in my last message about the state legislature.Hmm… you appear to be a fan of judicial activism to limit the power of the state legislature. BTW. I don’t see any WI congressional districts which don’t include at least one entire county, in fact, they all include multiple entire counties.
Ah
