Another potential government shutdown is coming up and it looks like the MAGA wing of the party is only adding more and more demands that the rest of the GOP isn’t as supportive of.

Will Johnson be able to thread the needle this time?

Shutdowns delegate spending choices to the President. Biden and his team remember every shutdown before (one of the few advantages of being old) and can turn a shutdown to their own advantage. But does young Johnson know this? He will at least remember the Trump shutdowns.

My guess is that there will be a shutdown, but it will only last a few days and 'extraordinary measures' will cover it. Nobody will be furloughed, it will just be a symbolic act and Johnson will heed the advice of party elders. There will be public backlash even before anyone feels the pain.
