Will be interesting to see if Trump breaks Reagan's all time judicial appointments record

During his first administration, Trump appointed 234 Article III Judges, including 3 Justices, 54 Courts of Appeals Judges, 174 District Court Judges and 3 Trade Court Judges.

During his administration, Reagan appointed 383 Article III Judges, including 4 Justices, 83 Courts of Appeals Judges, 290 District Court Judges and 6 Trade Court Judges.

That leaves Trump needing 150 Article III appointments to break the record, easily doable IF he holds onto the Senate in 2026.

However, remember Biden is NOT done yet. I expect that Democrats will make an all out push to confirm as many judicial nominees in the lame duck as is humanly possible. Perhaps another 21 Judges, which would tie him with Trump's first term total.

That will clearly slow down Trump a bit, as he will start with a relatively small number of vacancies to fill.

Republicans had all but stopped judicial confirmations in the final two years of Obama's term, leaving Trump a mass of vacancies to fill. That will not be the case this time.

I will be keeping the count as the second administration starts.

I think the blue slip courtesy is dead in the Senate come January so he will more than likely appoint a great many.

It's likely that Thomas and Ailto will retire during Trump's 2nd term so they can be replaced by conservatives.

RBG really screwed the pooch by staying on too long

Blue slip policy is pretty much up to the Judiciary Committee Chairman. Different Chairmen of both parties have dealt with it differently.

It should be ditched, not necessarily of Republican partisan reasons, but because it has simply been abused in the last two decades, by both parties.

You can bet Trump's justices will break every precedent breaking record.

Well, you can thank Harry Reid for killing the 60 vote threshold for judges. Came back to bite the Dems hard.

I didn’t say anything about McConnell’s filibuster abuse.

I wonder if Trump would've been convicted by the Senates, had there been a secret vote.

No. The Republican Party is dead without Trump.

Filling judicial openings will be a top priority for the Trump adminstration. I think he will top Reagan's record. Would not be surprised if a couple justices retire during the Trump adiminstration.

I've read that Republican senators secretly hate Trump, but can never vote to convict him as it would be political suicide for them.

Trump gets their voters to the polls. That is why 2022 was a surprise.

I think 2026 will be as well without Trump on the ticket.

Judge rescinded his senior status request, which will block Trump from nominating his replacement.

Unfortunately, no way to prevent judges of either party from manipulating or timing their retirements for political gain.

This routinely happens when Presidents of either party are elected.
