Can’t sell what you don’t have. Why has Ron DeSantis been such a flop?
Just two months into his fledgling — and floundering — presidential campaign, Ron DeSantis has already been forced to reboot.
Why has Ron DeSantis been such a flop?
Once heralded as the GOP’s likeliest Donald Trump slayer, Ron DeSantis has suffered a series of stumbles and setbacks. Can he reboot?news.yahoo.com
“Despite Trump’s incumbent-like status, a significant — and potentially growing — group of Republicans would rather not renominate him in 2024. In fact, the latest Yahoo News/YouGov poll found that less than half of potential GOP primary voters now prefer Trump (49%) over a hypothetical “someone else” (43%).
The problem is: Who’s that “someone else”? For now, DeSantis looks like the only viable Trump alternative. According to the poll aggregators at FiveThirtyEight, the governor is averaging about 18.6% nationally.
Stories about DeSantis’s lack of charisma and general off-puttingness abound, reinforcing the idea that he’s cold and awkward. He has entered what can only be called the Ted Cruz zone: a self-perpetuating narrative in which tales of a candidate’s aloofness (to put it mildly) are constantly being pushed to the fore. For most of the last three years, Ron DeSantis’s story was about him being the future of the Republican Party. Now, he already looks like a loser.” — Alex Shephard, New Republic."
DeSantis just come across as unamusing, uncharismatic, cold, and hard-hearted. Presidents sell their personalities more than their policies.
Biden did. Can’t sell what you don’t have.
Trump is why Biden is in the WH.Everyone who is not a die-hard Trump hater remembers Trump as a competent administrator. DeSantis is not a proven quantity and he has his own negatives.
I think Ted Cruz foresaw this when he decided not to run.
Biden did.
He still does.
Sir, you go too far!Everyone who is not a die-hard Trump hater remembers Trump as a competent administrator.
Biden has inflation down below 2021 levels.Biden did.
He still does.
People around the country had better pay attention to what meathead Ronnie is doing to Florida. Between destroying the school system, bullying Disney World, his abortion policy, and losing many major homeowners insurance companies...If he can't get a grip on his own state, how in the hell could he handle 50 of them? He's a fool, and a loser with a personality to match. Why has Ron DeSantis been such a flop?

<SARC>But he couldn't have done it if it hadn't been for the fact that Donald John Trump {BBHN} created the conditions for the recovery before the 2020 election was stolen. If the courts had recognized **T*H*E** **T*R*U*T*H** and ruled that Donald John Trump {BBHN} was the legal President, the so-called "recovery" would have happened two years earlier (and the Democrats would have paid for it).</SARC>Sir, you go too far!

Competent administrator? REALLY???Everyone who is not a die-hard Trump hater remembers Trump as a competent administrator. DeSantis is not a proven quantity and he has his own negatives.

Tim Scott has flip flopped on his stance on Trump. He has zero chance.1. He was never going to out-Trump, Trump. No one is. Chris Christie and Tim Scott are the only ones who have an alternate path around Trump, and I don't see really a huge demand for either one right now, especially Christie, who will always be remembered for the night he conceded and had the look of someone held hostage.
2. DeSantis had a lane, being a dickhead like Trump but not overdoing it and showing he knew when to rein it in. Well, he overdid and he just comes across as a weirdo who doesn't know when to stop digging his own hole. Attacking Disney was good for the culture war base, and I don't think his billionaire benefactors minded it initially. What they minded was that he didn't know when to have a private negotiation with incoming CEO Bob Iger, who had nothing to do with DeSantis' initial dust-up with Disney and actually said conciliatory things about NapoleRon.
That he's doubled and tripled down, that he's flown to Iowa and New Hampshire as storms battered his state and insurers are leaving it, shows piss poor leadership and doesn't really inspire confidence that he's ready for prime time. His early enthusiasts have stopped writing checks and are 'seeing other people'.
Ron, you're a great guy, I mean, kinda. It's not you, it's...okay, it's you.
Tim Scott has flip flopped on his stance on Trump. He has zero chance.
Christie will be interesting in the debates. He can slam Trump, provided Trump doesn't talk over him and interrupt him all the time. But Christie has no clear path.
Its Trump, even if he is convicted and is sent to jail. He will campaign from jail.
Good stuff in the Molly Jong-Fast article i.e:Rebooting Ron DeSantis Still Leaves You With Ron DeSantis
The Florida governor’s floundering presidential campaign is good news for democracy.www.vanityfair.com
"DeSantis makes Scott Walker look charming. He makes Paul Ryan look lively. Plus, voters tend not to vote for people who seem like they’re screaming at them all the time. No amount of donor dollars can make DeSantis, a MAGA marionette traipsing across Iowa and New Hampshire, seem like a real human boy."
No argument that charisma isn’t critical for any candidate to succeed.DeSantis just come across as unamusing, uncharismatic, cold, and hard-hearted. Presidents sell their personalities more than their policies.
Tim Scott's biggest problem is the systemic racism his party refuses to acknowledge. It's hard to put "black" and "republican" in the same sentence, when the current GQP leanings are all about the big huge "white nationalism" elephant in the room sucking up all the oxygen.Tim Scott has flip flopped on his stance on Trump. He has zero chance.

You both prove my point.
Yes.Competent administrator? REALLY???
This was all pre-2016.“The Trump Taj Mahal, which was built and owned by President Trump, filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy in 1991. The Trump Plaza, the Trump Castle, and the Plaza Hotel, all owned by President Trump at the time, filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy in 1992. THCR, which was founded by President Trump in 1995, filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy in 2004. Trump Entertainment Resorts Inc., the new name given to Trump Hotels & Casino Resorts after its 2004 bankruptcy, declared bankruptcy in 2009.” This is just the tip of his "incompetence iceberg"! LMAO!!! Take away his billions and he'd be hard pressed to keep a job flipping burgers, he's a disaster.
Sir, you go too far! Biden has inflation down below 2021 levels.
I hope you realize that you shot your foot off.
He's trying too hard to be Johnny Badass, which is very offputting when you have no charisma.People around the country had better pay attention to what meathead Ronnie is doing to Florida.
