In fact, the latest Yahoo News/YouGov poll found that less than half of potential GOP primary voters now prefer Trump (49%) over a hypothetical “someone else” (43%).

The problem is: Who’s that “someone else”? For now, DeSantis looks like the only viable Trump alternative. According to the poll aggregators at FiveThirtyEight, the governor is averaging about 18.6% nationally.

Stories about DeSantis’s lack of charisma and general off-puttingness abound, reinforcing the idea that he’s cold and awkward. He has entered what can only be called the Ted Cruz zone: a self-perpetuating narrative in which tales of a candidate’s aloofness (to put it mildly) are constantly being pushed to the fore. DeSantis just come across as unamusing, uncharismatic, cold, and hard-hearted. Presidents sell their personalities more than their policies.

Everyone who is not a die-hard Trump hater remembers Trump as a competent administrator. DeSantis is not a proven quantity and he has his own negatives.

I think Ted Cruz foresaw this when he decided not to run.

Trump is why Biden is in the WH.
 
Just like the millionaire and billionaire Establishment that funded Jeb! Bush and other opponents of Trump, the big-money Establishment donors looked to DeSantis to be the Establishment candidate that will support the party line. In other words, DeSantis is simply the latest iteration of previous Establishment favorites like St. John McCain, Mittens Romney, or Jeb!

The problem for the establishment is that the "base" opposes many of the policies of the establishment (for example, war in Ukraine, exporting our manufacturing jobs, lax border enforcement, etc). Even if they get a candidate like DeSantis who (although flip flopping on Ukraine) tries to say he's "just like Trump" without the "mean tweets, the reality is the establishment is presenting a "Trump Light" candidate who can never win the primary. After all, why would a Trump supporter vote for someone who is "similar" to Trump when they can vote for the actual man?
 
People around the country had better pay attention to what meathead Ronnie is doing to Florida. Between destroying the school system, bullying Disney World, his abortion policy, and losing many major homeowners insurance companies...If he can't get a grip on his own state, how in the hell could he handle 50 of them? He's a fool, and a loser with a personality to match.

The Trump base controls the GOP primaries. That is why Trump will win the nomination. That and the fact that The MSM will continue to be led around by the nose because Trump will continue to dominate their headlines. It's ALL TRUMP ALL THE TIME.

What is the question they continue to ask all the other GOP hopefuls? Just like in 2016: "What to YOU think of what Trump said/did/tweeted?"

This is just the tip of his "incompetence iceberg"! LMAO!!! Take away his billions and he'd be hard pressed to keep a job flipping burgers, he's a disaster.
 

1. He was never going to out-Trump, Trump. No one is. Chris Christie and Tim Scott are the only ones who have an alternate path around Trump, and I don't see really a huge demand for either one right now, especially Christie, who will always be remembered for the night he conceded and had the look of someone held hostage.

2. DeSantis had a lane, being a dickhead like Trump but not overdoing it and showing he knew when to rein it in. Well, he overdid and he just comes across as a weirdo who doesn't know when to stop digging his own hole. Attacking Disney was good for the culture war base, and I don't think his billionaire benefactors minded it initially. What they minded was that he didn't know when to have a private negotiation with incoming CEO Bob Iger, who had nothing to do with DeSantis' initial dust-up with Disney and actually said conciliatory things about NapoleRon.

That he's doubled and tripled down, that he's flown to Iowa and New Hampshire as storms battered his state and insurers are leaving it, shows piss poor leadership and doesn't really inspire confidence that he's ready for prime time. His early enthusiasts have stopped writing checks and are 'seeing other people'.

Ron, you're a great guy, I mean, kinda. It's not you, it's...okay, it's you.
 
DeSantis has been a flop because all he talks about is "woke, woke, woke".
After the third time railing on something "woke", people change the channel.
He can finish his term as Governor and then join Fox News.
 
DeSantis is one of those candidates who's bad on the national level that it makes you legitimately wonder how he was able to pull it off in his own state.

Bernie is another good example of a candidate who is widely popular in his own state but couldn't pull it off on the national level, the main difference being that Bernie is in fact quite popular nationally, just not popular enough.

But DeSantis? Good god he sucks.
 
Tim Scott has flip flopped on his stance on Trump. He has zero chance.
Christie will be interesting in the debates. He can slam Trump, provided Trump doesn't talk over him and interrupt him all the time. But Christie has no clear path.
Its Trump, even if he is convicted and is sent to jail. He will campaign from jail.
 

I also think both have zero chance but Scott could pull votes from people who want conservatism but don't like Trump's childish bullshit. I guess I'm just curious to see what percent of the vote he can get. Might do better if Haley would just wake up and realize she has no shot herself, in this life time or in 100 more.

No argument that charisma isn’t critical for any candidate to succeed.

In DeSantis’ case, his repellent smugness isn’t all that is hurting his candidacy.

His legislative “accomplishments” in FL are taking a toll as well, and for good reason.
 
Tim Scott's biggest problem is the systemic racism his party refuses to acknowledge. It's hard to put "black" and "republican" in the same sentence, when the current GQP leanings are all about the big huge "white nationalism" elephant in the room sucking up all the oxygen.
 
Trump has that undereducated white working class locked up. That is the majority of the Republican voters. Polls prove it. Don't even know why anyone questions it.

Trump personifies what those maga voters want. Someone who takes shit from no one. Loudly states exactly how they feel. Feeds all their hatred bigotry and fear.

You could claim that inflation levels are below 2021 highs but you did not say that. What you actually said is that inflation is below 2021 levels, meaning all of them. Inflation is 4% above what it was when Biden took office. They were correct to ridicule you.
 
He's trying too hard to be Johnny Badass, which is very offputting when you have no charisma.
