...But groups like Everytown’s “The Smoking Gun” project are suddenly clutching their pearls. They’re calling out gun companies for daring to market to women. Their big gripe? That the firearm industry is trying to “normalize” women and guns.

Damn right we are...
[emphasis mine]

Including my wife & daughter, I've taught a couple dozen women to shoot (handguns). My typical routine was to start off with a .22 (pistol or revolver) and gradually climb the ladder to more powerful calibers, based on the student's own learning curve & acquired familiarity and skill.

In my admittedly limited experience, I have found it easier to teach women than men. I find them more attentive and less reticent to ask so-called "stupid" questions. Men often get mired in testosterone, and, I think, embarrassment - at not knowing how to shoot - and tend to be harder nuts to crack.

Nearly half the women I taught deliberately chose to be taught by a neutral 3rd party as opposed to their own significant others, the better to avoid any impatience or emotional entanglements - which I find to be quite a mature perspective.

The best part of teaching the girls? The vibe of quiet confidence & self-assuredness they exude after getting comfy with the gun thing. The most memorable was a woman who'd been looking over her shoulder for an abusive ex, and emailed me that after the last of our classes she had her first good night's sleep in about a year and a half. Her gun? A Ruger SP101 loaded with .38 Special+P hollow points. Sucks to be that dude, if he comes calling.

Good times.

In the Army I trained many people, but other than my immediate family have never had an opportunity otherwise. But then, I don't think I've known any families that the women and girls didn't have at least some basic familiarity with guns- and some are quite adept. It's absolutely normal in my world.

I hear all the time of more women getting gun training and obtaining carry permits. I have friends and relatives that live in or on the outskirts of one of America's most troubled (crime) cities. Most will not venture out in town except to go to work, (daylight hours) or for very limited and specific reasons after dark. Many of the women I know simply will not venture out alone anymore. The sad thing is there are always ways to make these situations better but the politicians stand in the way.

Crime in America. Why can't our leaders see it and fix it? Politics ahead of safety.

To the gun control crowd, a woman who stops her attacker with a gun is more objectionable than a victim who is murdered or raped.

The problem with this is it suggests the system has flaws and gun ownership compensates for it. The system has to be perfect in the gun control types eyes.

I taught my children, two boys, one girl, to shoot. All three started hunting by age 7 (mentored).

My wife learned the use of weapons at an early age, so that was never an issue.

But I could see how it might be better if a wife (or husband) who is not proficient with weapons learn from a third party professional instructor, rather than their spouse.

I bet Arkansas saw a HUGE surge in women buying guns last few days with the Devil's Den murders

and yes, liberals/Democrats HATE people who can defend themselves

It's not that they hate the people it's that they want the power they're jealous of people that have power that's why they call everyone Nazi all the time. It's not cuz Nazis are bad to them it's because Nazis had power that they want.

'suppose there is truth to that yes

Democrats want victims - because with victims they can then place the blame somewhere and capitalize on tragic events so they can get their agenda passed

Victims are a means to gaining power. Think about the primary argument you hear when people are talking about gun control it's won't someone please think of the children and they cite instances where someone goes into a school and shoots up a school.

I propose that they don't do anything and actually do everything in their power to stop anybody from having any way to stop this sort of thing so that it can happen more and more often so they can say see you need us to protect you from things we let happen.
