Because there aren't any non-users who support it, at least none that are very well-known in their movement. I would think if a large amount of non-users supported legalization, they might get something accomplished. The thing is, though, there's no other real reason to support it other than wanting to smoke legally. And I'm sure they don't want to start supporting it since drug-free people are quickly becoming obsolete in a society that encourages drug use. Why is this issue treated neutrally? Am I the only one who can see how one-sided this issue is?

I have tried marijuana and did not like it. The only drug I currently use is caffeine. I support the legalization of all drugs.

Why legalize marijuana?:

1. It's a hypocritical waste of time to persecute people for using or selling something that is no more harmful than currently legal drugs. This erodes respect for the law.

2. Having something illegal creates a black market that creates social ills independent of the drug itself. (see alcohol prohibition, al capone)

3. Having the drug illegal does not significantly reduce irresponsible use of the drug. (see alcohol prohibition)

4a. Given that marijuana is more socially acceptable than other illegal drugs, having marijuana illegal causes otherwise non-criminals to associate more often with more hardened criminals, thus increasing criminality itself.

4b. The enforcement of victimless crimes closes conventional opportunities to otherwise conventional people, and instead opens up criminal opportunities.

In sum: It's not so much that marijuana is good for society, just that having it illegal does not address its ills and instead introduces new problems.

Hmm. I did not think it was possible for a person to be this genuinely stupid and irrational without the use of drugs.

Unlike the OP, I am capable of revising my opinions in the face of contradictory evidence. Good riddance. Again.
