Incest can result in deformation of the fetus, but if that makes abortion "okay", then it should also be "okay" to abort any fetus that's going to be born deformed.
Rape can result in unwanted pregnancy. Unlike careless sex, rape is never the mother's fault. But it's not the fetus' fault, either. If you care about the mother's feelings, and don't want to force her to have a "constant reminder" of the incident, then that makes abortion okay? If that's the case, abortion should be okay for any woman who gets pregnant by an abusive, dominating husband or boyfriend, so they don't have a "constant reminder" of the abuse.
Why support a woman's right to choose only for certain circumstances by which she got pregnant? Does anyone who holds this belief care to explain their rationale?
You didn't answer my question. If you support abortion in the case of incest, and this is the reason you support it, then it should be ok to abort ANY fetus that's going to be deformed, right?1. Because when a baby is produced by someone of the same family, 9/10 times the baby comes out with a disorder.
That's true, but we aren't talking about the mother's responsibility, we're talking about the fetus' "right" to develop into a person. Regardless of the circumstances of pregnancy, it's still a "life", isn't it?2. Every other abortion is because the girl cant use protection/ keep her legs together and she is too irresponsible to take care of her consequences.
No argument here. But again, this isn't about the circumstances behind how mom got pregnant. It's about the fetus.3. That is just wrong to have a baby with lets say your dad.
But pro-lifers argue that teenagers who get pregnant carelessly (not via rape) should give it up for adoption, not abort.4. Most of the girls that are raped are too young to have a baby (to young to support it) so they do not need a child
How is that any different than having a constant reminder of an abusive husband? My father was abusive, but my mother doesn't consider me a "constant reminder" of that.and yes its a constant reminder.
No, I wouldn't want to have a baby with some nasty perv, but that's beside the point. I have a friend who'se mother was raped and she became pregnant with him. She chose to carry him to term, and raise him like her own child. He seems to have turned out just fine. And the babie could come out messed up and how would you explain who the babies daddy is to the baby! It some random sick-o. Would you want to have a baby with some nasty perv?

flip2 said:I would still want to be alive. I've got too much to live for to decide to kill myself now if I'm a constant reminder to my mother that she was raped. If you live like that thinking that way, you'll be too depressed and go crazy. Make good on your life to give new reason and a new, positive inspiration to your mother.
Besides, obviously the Mother thought better of not aborting if you're still alive.

Gandhi>Bush said:This isn't a state secret. We all know the risks involved when proceeding with sexual intercourse. Plus using more than just one method of protection is always a good idea.
Bluefire said:Some questions:
1.) One of the arguments for abortion is if a teenager gets impregnated, many times they are too young to have a child (say highschool) and their parents can't afford it. Why is it applicable when theres rape involved, but not applicable when there is no rape involved?

Bluefire said:3.) Should consensual statutory rape victims be allowed to have an abortion? After all, legally they were raped. But they DID consent to the sex, and they weren't being responsible.
Bluefire said:You'd be surprised how many people don't and the lack of good education there is on this, depending on where you grew up and how "liberal" the school systems were.

Just cause a baby has the chance to be deformed or have some disease is no reason to abort it! The baby still needs a chance to live! What if the baby wasnt gonna be deformed or anything like that then how would you feel knowing you aborted a perfectly ok baby ! The fact that people are so against abortion except in rape or incest is pretty hypocritical!
Courtneyx3 said:Okay darling do you not know what usually happens with girls that have babies with someone in their family? When babies that are conceived by two people in the same family most come out mentally retarded or with a trisomy. And in most of those cases the babies die soon after they are born, and they do not die a nice death, they go through a lot of pain and suffering, now you think that a baby that is going to suffer should be born and have to go through that? Not all babies will be like that, but why take the chance.
And again if YOU were raped and got pregnant would you want a constant reminder? Most girls can't handle it, and some can, some keep their children, some don't. That is fine if they can handle the baby and keep it and all is well. But what about the girls that can't handle the reminder? Rape already haunts a girl, why should she have more pain put on her? That should be her right to choose. It is NOT their fault that they got raped/ pregnant so do you think its fair that they should have to pay for something that they didn't want/ choose to do irresponsibly?
In the other cases where girls weren't raped- they were just being to irresponsible and not using protection, then they should have to deal with the consequences of their irresponsibleness.
