Why do so many American Christians act in most un-Christ like ways? Starting with one of the best known issues is that American Christians support public prayer at sports events, town meetings, on TV, and complain that Christian prayers were taken out of public schools But the being they say they worship had other ideas about public prayer

Matthew 6:5-6 NRSV
5 “And whenever you pray, do not be like the hypocrites, for they love to stand and pray in the synagogues and at the street corners, so that they may be seen by others. Truly I tell you, they have received their reward.
6 But whenever you pray, go into your room and shut the door and pray to your Father who is in secret, and your Father who sees in secret will reward you.

I would venture to say that the majority of American Christians support violent self defence. They also often express opposition to government aid for the homeless and needy

Matthew 5:38-42 NIV
38 “You have heard that it was said, ‘Eye for eye, and tooth for tooth.’
39 But I tell you, do not resist an evil person. If anyone slaps you on the right cheek, turn to them the other cheek also.
40 And if anyone wants to sue you and take your shirt, hand over your coat as well.
41 If anyone forces you to go one mile, go with them two miles.
42 Give to the one who asks you, and do not turn away from the one who wants to borrow from you.

American Christians bitch and moan about Sleepy Joe's open borders and allowing homeless people to clutter roads and streets in the 'their' cities and towns.

Matthew 25:34 & 43-46 KJV
34 Then shall the King say unto them on his right hand, Come, ye blessed of my Father, inherit the kingdom prepared for you from the foundation of the world:

for

43
I was a stranger, and ye took me not in: naked, and ye clothed me not: sick, and in prison, and ye visited me not.
44 Then shall they also answer him, saying, Lord, when saw we thee an hungred, or athirst, or a stranger, or naked, or sick, or in prison, and did not minister unto thee?
45 Then shall he answer them, saying, Verily I say unto you, Inasmuch as ye did it not to one of the least of these, ye did it not to me.
46 And these shall go away into everlasting punishment: but the righteous into life eternal.

Many American Christians who view themselves as conservative are constantly ranting about socialised medicine and how it takes money away from those who have earned it.

Matthew 10:8-9 NET
8 Heal the sick, raise the dead, cleanse lepers, cast out demons. Freely you received, freely give.
9 Do not take gold, silver, or copper in your belts

So, tell the curious – Why do so many Christians not only act in un-Christ like manner, they actively oppose the efforts of others who are trying to follow the rules of Jesus?
Is a preacher with a private jet, a multi-million dollar estate, holidays at expensive resorts act in a Christ-like manner? Is a preacher calling for the execution of gays, the subservience of women and the imposition of their faith on all Americans acting in a Christ-like manner?

Because we're human. Christ set the bar pretty high and striving to be more like him is always the goal. However, being the imperfect, sinful creatures that we are, we continuously fall short.

CINO's That's what america has.
Ayup. When the republicans got aholt of it it stopped being about being holy and started being about being holier than thou.

Christians are those people who behave the least like Christ.

Why do never Christians think they are an authority on Christianity? 🤷‍♂️

Because Christianity is political, not spiritual. It always has been. It's not just America, it's where ever the majority of Christians are. They rule with scripture, and the only ones believing it are peasants.
Hasn't changed that much over the years.

That depends on the Christian you ask...

In other words, the meek shall inherit the earth.

Why do too many Christians appear unable or unwilling to answer a few simple questions?
Ok, I'm game...

Pretty obvious...they're not following Jesus...

Is a preacher with a private jet, a multi-million dollar estate, holidays at expensive resorts act in a Christ-like manner?
No...

Is a preacher calling for the execution of gays, the subservience of women and the imposition of their faith on all Americans acting in a Christ-like manner?
No...

That depends on the Christian you ask...

True.

There are those who call themselves Christian who act in most un-Christ like ways. There are those who call themselves Christian who can't agree with other Christians as to the nature of Jesus. There were Christians, they got wiped out by other Christians, who believed that Jesus was only a human who had been given the Holy Spirit at his baptism. There were Christians who believed Jesus was born 70-80 years before the one called Jesus of Nazareth - they too were eliminated by others who called themselves Christians. There were Christians who believed sexual relationships, even in a marriage, were sinful. In the first 5 or 6 centuries as Christianity grew, there were multiple understandings and beliefs as to the nature of the one called the Christ - if he existed.

The problem remains -- who are the true Christians today?

A major reason that Christianity is shrinking in all of the economically developed nations - knowledge of their nation's history and the many ways the Church controlled the people for centuries.

I guess that question is up to each person to answer...when we attempt to impose what we think on others, we're no better than the fake Christians are...all we can do is inform...what they do with it is up to them...

Irony - it’s funny

Sounds more like an excuse.

Sounds more like an excuse.
Not saying people shouldn't own up to it, merely suggesting we as humans are fallible and prey to our own selfishness. I don't think anyone is expecting Christians, or anyone else for that matter, to be perfect.

And some people might use that as an excuse to not try. No point if one is always going to come up short no matter what.

Considering it's typically christians who seem sanctimonious or think they know better, then they are not really in a position to preach.
