Why are we still having tiresome debates about abortion, religion in the classroom, renewable energy, civil rights, marriage equality (and LGBT+), and states rights? We have come so far and Republicans want to move backwards. It makes no sense.

Well the only obvious answer is that people have been duped by some cartoonishly evil Marvel villain OR they're just innately, instinctually hateful!

Surely they could not hold those beliefs sincerely. Surely they could not be operating under an entirely different set of assumptions about society, human nature, sovereignty, etc. than you do.

Its preposterous that anyone could ever be critical of anything you believe in! I think it was Plato who first said that "the good" is derived from new liberal posters on debate politics dot com.

It's okay to have personal opinions without wanting to force your views on the rest of the country. You see this now in red states wanting to bring the Bible into classrooms and prevent women's from choosing to abort. It's literally anti-freedom.

You desire a form of politics and human interaction which is not real. It doesn't exist.

Taking your first point of abortion. Presumably, you are "pro-choice" or "pro-abortion". To be pro something implies the existence of a competing political will or, in this case, "anti-abortion". Neither position is therefore neutral or apolitical and the difference is irreconcilable. You desire a non-confrontational form of politics where all of your sociopolitical sympathies are the standard in society without the need of violence, coercion, or confrontation. That doesn't exist.

It's literally anti-freedom.

It's the opposite. It's the ability for man to have conviction and express his assumptions, even if they're different from yours. If we had it your way, we would all be in a submissive catatonic state where we uncritically resolve all problems of politics and philosophy with some arbitrary social standard. Stripping man of his ability to express, to have conviction, to be confrontational and war-like would strip him of his nature and as a consequence he would not be free.

Because those issues are often the victim of exaggeration, politics, and a far left progressive ideology. Saving babies, freedom of religion, the need for affordable fossil fuels, and following the law and the Constitution are important just as civil rights and all issues of equality. However, many on the left use scare tactics, and exaggeration to install fear in the minds of people instead of just presenting the truth and letting people decide based on facts and not opinion and manipulated "science".
Abortion isn't just about the mother, the left ignores that other life. Where are we not working hard at equality? Same sex marriages are legal, but you can't make people agree with the morality of it. Just like booze is legal, but many people see is as a horrible and crippling addiction. Equality means we can all have our own ideas about these issues and we have to find balance in many of them. The left only sees hard left.
The nation apparently saw things more in line with stability and conservatism this time around.

....or the explosion of disinformation coming from the increasing number of extremist right-wing media.

Well if all it takes is a compelling message then it's time to get to work!

Because you went too far forward and many positions by the far left make no sense.

They were meant to feel insecure and terrified that people who weren't straight white 'christian' right wing males were being treated equally. In other words, they want to bring us backwards because they are backwards, and just can't cut it when they don't start out ten steps ahead of everyone else.

Because the GOIP voters out there want it.........or they were duped into thinking they do.

Why do Republicans want to move the country backwards?

Several reasons that include, but are not limited to, racism, religion, misogyny, and the pursuit of higher profits.

How come the the smallest minority groups in the country voted in favor of trump then? How come the female vote shifted in favor of trump? How come Black and hispanic males did too in record numbers? How come literally the whole country shifted red? And how exactly are those who aren't "straight Christian Right wing males" being treated equally? You clearly don't care enough about anything other than the apparent shameless hate you have for a certain group who are exercising their right to religion and other beliefs. You sound like you're everything you don't like.

Because for some reason Conservatives seems to think everything was perfect in the 50s.

It makes sense if one supports reactionary populism.

Ah yes the diverse demographics which shifted towards trump are racist, the women who did too are all sexist, and don't forgot the poor people who struggle to afford living and support themselves, how dare they try to improve their standard of living.

Conservatives have this idea of a perfect time having existed in the past (it didn’t) and they want to return to that time.

Insecurities caused by a lack of education.

MAGA members know they are not as intellectually gifted as Dems. It is their way of this obvious inferiority.
