Marc Fogel, a teacher from Oakmont Pa, is serving a 16 year prison sentence in Russia for having half an ounce of pot that was prescribed to him. I guess even teachers aren't as sexy enough for the media and government to cover and call for his release, yet childrens' game player Brittney Greiner is? In a letter to his wife, Fogel said "Teachers are at least as important as b-ball players".

Greiner's wife and Paul Whelan's wife got a call from President Biden during Greiner's release. Yet Fogel's wife didn't? All the more reason if it ends up being Biden/Trump not voting is an option.

Hmm… are you asserting (implying?) that ‘identity politics’ might have been involved?

I am asserting that if you're not a public figure, you apparently don't mean dick.

Yep, only two names were mentioned by the WH press secretary as being under consideration for this swap ‘deal’.

I don't remember Fogel's name coming up even one time during this whole period of exchange discussions and interaction between the two countries. That suggests that in the current environment if nobody is here beating the weeds to get you home (no significant public outcry) you are not going anywhere no matter who you are.

Don't expect Putin to adopt an aggressive prisoner exchange posture. The pressure has to be public pressure from this side of the ocean for the topic to even be discussed.

Good grief another thread on this lol

Yesterday one more AMERICAN came home than was home the day before

that is a good thing and makes me happy

just like it made me happy in April when one came home and just like it made me happy in October when 7 came home

I cant Imagine being GRRRRRRRR angry at something good happening because some other good thing didn't happen?
Or even worse being angry in that situation because of ignorance and or propaganda told you to be angry. . . . .

No thanks, Ill keep being me and I'll just hope MORE good things happen tomorrow and the day after that and the day after that.

We so need to be better than this . . . . . the false narratives and invented conspiracies and fake outrage are so sad

It seems to be very political to me.

The difference is that bringing home someone like Brittney Greiner makes the government look great because here is a public figure they can put in front of a camera, who was in front of the camera before. Greiner was "chosen" because of what some people would call "propaganda".

Greiner is a public figure who draws more eyes to the TV screen, and as such, brings our government more positive press than a teacher, or even a US Marine. She was singled out by the government, and national media, as someone who deserved the help, while ignoring someone like Fogel, who was arrested FOR ALMOST THE SAME CRIME!!! Yet, because he can't throw a rubber ball into a round hole better than Greiner, he gets ignored. This isn't about not being happy because someone else got released, this is about fairness, doing everything possible for everyone (not just childrens' game players), and bringing light to someone's plight who deserves it just as much, if not more, than the person who was released. At least Whelan has been back in the news because of this, but what about this SCHOOL TEACHER?! "He doesn't throw a round object into a net, so we won't cover him". ****ing pathetic. All the more reason why if it is Biden vs. Trump again, neither of them deserve my vote.

You're making up lies about Biden having a choice. Putin decides who he'll release.

What's another difference between him and Greiner?

The quantity (by weight?) of the ‘drugs’ involved. After all, having about half an ounce (14 grams?) of ‘medical’ marijuana clearly indicates Fogel was an international drug dealer.

Fogel is definitely a better example to bring up than the disgraced marine that people were harping on about yesterday.

no, there is no real difference thats just how you see
i just look at facts and I see it just as an AMERICAN coming home and that's good, just like in April and just like in October which many of the people fake outraged don't even know about because fox etc wasn't telling them to be angry about it
others see it in various ways positive and negative etc

Greiner was "chosen" because of what some people would call "propaganda".
they can call it what they like but there's no facts that make it so THATS that propaganda just like the rest of your hilarious false narrative trigger post full of factually false claims invented delusions and subjective feelings lol

All the more reason why if it is Biden vs. Trump again, neither of them deserve my vote.
nah because once again i don't buy into the propaganda, false narrative and fake outrage. . . the state department's negation this particular prison swap doesn't make me judge a "president" for deserving my vote.
I mean neither of them got my vote anyway and donnie never could get my vote but it would have ZERO to do with this because it makes no sense and has no logical, intellectual, merit-based impact on such a thing

once again it makes me happy just like it did in April and October and ill simply hope for more AMERICANS to come home tomorrow and the day after that and the day after that

On Aug. 14, 2021, the Fogels landed at Sheremetyevo airport in Moscow after the long flight from New York on the Russian airline Aeroflot. When they deplaned, Jane noticed they were in a different terminal than usual with more security, a change from the lax environment they’d encountered in previous years. She stopped at the restroom and her husband went ahead to the security checkpoint.

When she caught up with him, she could tell something was wrong. His breath had quickened so much that his mask was inflating and deflating like a balloon.
“Jane,” he said, “I’m really in trouble.”
He’d packed 14 vape cartridges of medical marijuana into his suitcase, stuffing some in his shoes, and placed some cannabis buds in a contact lens case, his wife said. Jane said she had no idea he’d done it. But why take such a risk?
“It’s pretty simple,” his son Ethan said of his father’s plan to bring medical marijuana into Russia. “He thought he could get away with it.”

Never heard Trump mention him either. Seems odd to me....also very, very little info when doing a search. Something doesn't sit well with me on this one. Are we sure it was a personal amount of drugs?

Greiner is black, gay, and in the news, and getting her released yields the most votes. This is exactly how electoral politics is suppose to work. Biden is behaving rationally.

Biden was president when Fogel was arrested.

I think Fogel had 14 vape cartridges. I'm not sure how long he was planning on staying in Russia, so it may be reasonable to say it was for personal use, but it probably exceeded what the law would consider for personal use.

I still think Fogel should have been as much a part of the conversation as Griner.

I feel confident that Putin was only ever going to agree to release the black captive, because he is trying to stoke racial animus here in the US.

If the president were a Republican, i am sure Putin would have released a white prisoner and kept Griner.

Personally I think it was done to screw with the R's, seems to be working, no?

Wouldn't know, I'm not a Republican.

Also seems like a pretty stupid thing to choose Greiner just to screw with a certain political party.
