They're pissed at us because of our actions. And the Palestinians are pissed off at Israel because of theirs.

They've been pissed since they realized the Zionists colonial intent. They never intended to live side by side. They've had a fuzzy slipper on the Palestinians throats since 48. Doing everything they can to make life untenable for Arabs on land they consider their own (beyond the UN mandate).

America and Israel have been poking Arabs for decades.

And asymmetrical warfare is a bitch. Ask the British about our behavior.

Had America not been fighting proxy wars with the USSR over there over access to oil and the Zionists been better neighbors and not insisted on establishing a permanent physical majority in an area where they were already outnumbered I seriously doubt we'd be seeing anywhere near as much islamist nonsense.

If Israel didn't exist would we have the same set of enemies over there?

Likely. We've been involved in that area for quite some time because of the massive oil holdings. Those would exist with or without Israel. If Israel didn't exist, we'd still be fighting very similar, if not the exact same, wars as now.
