I just wanna know what you guys think mostly its social media.

Left leaning people neurotically oscillating between peasant worshipping third worldists when democracy is doing what they want and Platonic aristocratic elitists when it doesn't is such good content lol.

I think it's easy to worship the law of averages and think all Americans can be quantified into a bunch of easily digested statistics. The truth is we're all individuals and each of us are in our own personal situation. This drives how we vote. We all vote for our own best benefit. Democrats clearly misread how much economically people are hurting.

Too much home schooling.

I don’t think Americans are stupid.

I think we have collectively been in a self destructive and angry mood in this country since the 2008 financial crisis and have never fully snapped out of it. We want to tear things up, including our institutions, culture, and government.

I expect that mood is only going to accelerate in the coming years as the wealth gap continues to increase.

This has nothing to do with intelligence. Most Americans are typically politically disengaged and when they are engaged, will vote for what they believe is in theirs and their family's personal self-interest, if they bother voting at all. I won't rule out some level of spite, but most people generally will not wait two to four hours in line on a chilly Fall day for that.

It's not just Americans. My family is from Haiti and the reality is Democracy doesn't actually work.

Let me explain. The U.S. has pushed democracy in poor countries in Africa and it has not worked. People just vote for conmen and the country falls apart.

Why did American democracy work for so long? Because the two parties always presented voters with two reasonable choices. If voters had a choice between Thomas Jefferson and Joe the Loud Mouth Farmer they would vote for the farmer. Voters don't make good choices.

Trump wasn't really chosen by the Republican party. He just marched in thanks to his wealth and celebrity. You're experiencing the reality of democracy in India, Haiti, and various African countries.

I'm not saying get rid of democracy. I'm saying that you need prerequisites for becoming president or holding office or people will literally vote for clowns and strippers.

See, I don't agree here. I'm not saying that Americans are stupid, but a lot of us vote straight tickets without giving it any thought. According to this article 35% of republicans and 43% of democrats vote straight ticket.

It's even worse in my state

Where 66% of people voted straight ticket in the 2022 primaries.

It actually makes sense to vote straight ticket if you are voting based on your beliefs and what you want to see happen. The party hopefully has an agenda with policies and plans to achieve those goals and that's why you voted for them to begin with. You voted you beliefs in policies and it' stands to reason that party candidates share those.

That's a good POV. My ballots tend to be split. I can't bring myself to vote for people who I don't think are good people.

The thread title would be a rousing campaign slogan.

Why not use it next time around? "Don't be so stupid! Vote for me!"

Bound to be a winner.

Americans are not stupid. We are a divided country and we have different opinions on what the country needs.
Okay, you sound like a Trump voter, what did he say that you think the country needs. Secure borders maybe, well why didn't Trump actually secure the borders when he has four years to do so. He passed no real laws to do the job and when the GOP had a chance to pass a bill to help with the problem, Trum killed it. How about inflation. His failure to handle both the covid problem and the Transportation/distribution system problems led to shortage in supply that eventually as in any capitalistic system led to inflation. I am sorry, this is about the dumbing down of the American public who do get most of their misinformation from media where they only go to that media which agrees with their political opinions.

Honestly? Take a look at what's happening in Europe right now. The parts of Asia and Africa that aren't outright tyrannical hellholes. South America.

We aren't any dumber than the rest of the ****ing world. Our stupidity just affects a hell of a lot more people.

Americans are not stupid, they are just ignorant, which is different from stupid and our education system is at fault. I listen to and read about how bad the economy is and wonder, do these stupid people even understand economics, really? I mean the GOP tells people how bad the economy is and they just take it for a fact. With everyone else in the world lookiing at our economy and seeing it as the best in the world they have to wonder what the hell the GOP is saying. Then we have inflation. OUt country is tied to the world more than most people understand as we are one of if not the biggest importer of goods in the world. The whole world had high inflation and in this country much of it had to do with Trump's failure to handle the covid problem and the transportation/distribution problems that led to supply problem pushing prices up. Does anyone talk about it, no because we only listen to those people who believe as we do. If more people actually understood economics, they would understand more about our economy. again, uneducated not stupid.

Government Education Systems are organized and run for the benefit of the administrators and employees, not the students.

What it should be is get educated, not by blog, but take a course in government or economics so you can figure out for yourself the problems. The problem is that even if they take a course they will not agree with anything that does not match their political opinions.

As if it's in the interest of government school apparatchik$ to enlighten people about the [limited] government envisioned by the authors of the Con., etc.,!!

You don't really get it right IMO. There's always a strain of that mentality which makes those voters easy to manipulate. It's not about 2008, though we saw it then with the Koch brothers' "tea party" manipulation. Ironically, the more wealth inequality, the easier it is for the wealthy to fool people who to blame. George Soros is the cause!

Picking a thread for this, from my e-mail today.

Democrats are always afraid to say they did a great job with the economy because there are always those who are struggling. With Trump it's always the greatest economy ever. He's great at self-promotion. Dems suck at self-promotion.
