European leaders rush to US to help Ukraine avoid 'capitulation'​

European leaders may have rushed to Washington ostensibly to throw a protective arm around
President Zelensky and head off any repeat of February's Oval Office bust-up.

But their real aim is to stop US President Donald Trump threatening long-term European
security after his abrupt change of course over how best to end the war in Ukraine.

Not only did Trump drop calls for a ceasefire as a prerequisite for talks about long-term
peace, he also - diplomats say - made clear he had no intention of imposing further economic sanctions on Russia.

In short, the travelling European heads of government – plus EU and NATO leaders -
want to avoid not just confrontation, but also capitulation.​

Firstly, there are plenty of threads already about the lead-up and what the aims are but I'm exploring how citizens of NATO feel about this. Personally, I've seen everything now when allies are heading off to Washington to try and prevent the aims of a mortal enemy being forced onto them.

For those US based MAGAts who think this is about leftist European leaders - the first person to say they were going with Zelenskyy was Giorgia Meloni who cut short her Greek holiday to accompany Zelenskyy.
Her volunteering led to the others coming along.

How do our fellow citizens of NATO feel about this?

I suspect the Globalists told the EU leaders it's time to end the war and start the next money-making phase: Reconstruction.

They saw the Ukraine losing and started freaking out.
 
Who would have thought a sitting US president would invite and entertain a wanted war criminal on US soil?

I just can't imagine FDR inviting Hitler or Harry Truman inviting Tojo to a kumbaya summit in Alaska.

I get that impression as well.

The last minute procession to DC exposed more a European weakness than projection of strength. In the end what did six major European powers achieve other than a 8 - 16 hour round trip just to wait outside the door?

And when finally Trump granted them an audience I did not see presented to Trump anything close to a demand accompanied by a consequence to not getting a response. Instead I saw a bunch of satraps as much as groveling at Trump's feet.

What is painfully clear is Europe cannot move Russia or the US

That goes hand-in-hand with the president abandoning them and switching sides.

Oh please. Israel's prime minster has been here how many times? We've given sanctuary to war criminals in the past. Ukraine will likely when this is over go after Zelenskyy and we'll harbor him too.
 
Lots of things happening behind the scenes. Our press ignores or chooses to not report an awful lot as it spoils the narrative. Russia for example hit the fuel depot and distribution network Ukraine was using recently. Russia keeps ratcheting up the pressure relentlessly. Getting tough for Ukraine to fight back. EU nations don't have the hardware , production capacity, or money to sustain a long war and they sure as hell aren't going to put troops on the ground.

Can you imagine the graft Trump could generate with a Ukraine reconstruction?

He would dole out Ukraine reconstruction contracts to all his billionaire buddies.

And you know, Trump gets his cut from every contract. Just as Putin does in Russia whose pals got the Sochi Olympic contracts, the Crimea Bridge contract, etc.

Putin's oligarch pals received much of the reconstruction contracts for Mariupol in Ukraine.

Sometimes presidents meet with bad people. Joseph Kabila and Uhuru Kenyatta come to mind hosted by Obama in 2014.

Putin helped elect Trump, so he kind of owes him.

Why do you think Zelensky was hesitant to sign the first version of the U.S./Ukraine mineral deal?
