Who on earth thought it was a great idea to set up the Jewish people in their own country in that region after WWII? Can you imagine that conversation?

Jewish committee member: We want to go back to our homeland, the land that God gave us eons ago, that has been usurped by Arabs. After all, our people were killed, our homes destroyed, and we were pushed out of our homeland eons ago. The land is rightly ours.

Non-Jewish committee member: Hey, that's a great idea! To set up a Jewish state on contested land in the middle of Arab country! Of course, you'll have to kick out the Arabs, bulldoze down their homes that have been there for centuries. They'll get over it, once they realize you're there to stay. This could work!

All who agree, say "aye": "Aye. Aye. Aye. Aye. Aye."

Those who disagree, say nay: [crickets]

And then Mickey Rooney and Judy Garland came out and said, "Hey, we've got a great idea, too! Let's put on a show!"

[Disclaimer: I understand why the Jewish people wanted to go back to their homeland. But given the area being settled, albeit sparsely and not an established country, by Arabs, who hate Jews, and vice versa, as well as other Arab countries surrounding the area, it's hard to believe that someone didn't foresee what would happen.]
