The are hundreds of millions of people in this country.

Millions of them on social media like TikTok, X and internet forums like this one.

Thousands of posts, videos made daily about politics. Some that get millions of views. Many of them full of hate toward people on the opposing side of the aisle.

Who needs to tone down the hateful rhetoric?

People on the right and the left.

Will they? Nah...

Look at the difference between President Obama and how he chose his words carefully to respect others. Now look at President Trump who only wants to impress his followers with ignorant use of the English language.

It's not so much what you say, It's how you say it. Republican President Ronald Reagan was considered to be the greatest communicator of our time.

Rhetorical question or a baiting question?

Why would it be a baiting question? Because there are some - not necessarily saying the OP, but there are some - whose ONLY interest in the Charlie Kirk assassination is to create a narrative about how evil liberals and the Democrats are.

Now imagine, if you answer that it is ONLY the left that has to turn down the rhetoric while demonizing the left, and then ask yourself how your answer promotes turning down the hateful rhetoric?

AND to prove my point one person already voted for blaming only the Left. And not shocked at all who it was either.

There are examples of political rhetoric from both sides to spread lies in the Stasis of Lawmakers.

The "stasis of lawmakers" describes the phenomenon of legislative gridlock, where partisan polarization and institutional friction lead to prolonged periods of governmental inactivity on major policy issues. While this is a long-term pattern, recent reports from 2024 and 2025 indicate an exacerbation of these trends, particularly at the federal level, due to heightened polarization.

I say both. And if they don't, then it's up to voters to elect adults that don't use visceral rhetoric. I myself am sick of this and will try to be more mature as well.

Trump

Everybody losing their crap needs to just calm down.

Not just traditional "right" or "left" but everybody. There are some crazy ass views out there and some don't even fit into labels. Everybody needs to get offline more, take a walk or something, and just chill.

The worst offender is Trump.

Cool. No one asked about the worst.

No one on social media on the left needs to tone down violent rhetoric?

One problem for me is some of us the sidelines get caught up with those weirdos. I admit, it did get me riled up to see someone posting on here laughing because two children watched their father get shot in the neck. But I have to remind myself a lot of people here say crazy things on here for attention or just to stir the pot. All I can do is shame them and move on because letting it get to you turns you into them.

Everyone.

But I also think there's a lot of bots/trolls, everywhere, doing this to us.

When it's just words, maybe sometimes. When it's a video of someone speaking under their real name - nah.

Glad people are still emotional about this sort of thing. Don't apologize for that it's the right response.

They need to be reminded their reaction is grotesque. Didn't hesitate.

Agreed and this is what I've always said. Technology providing instant access to virtually anything has become a horrible addiction and will probably lead to the ultimate downfall of society.

I believe those are radicalized people, pushed to anger and hate.

Just look at the Charlie kirk thread. (You know the one) All of the meticulously edited quotes, cut off videos, etc, making Kirk out to be some sharia law, callous monster.

Imagine, all you know of that person, are those snippets. You begin to believe that this is a man who wants guns killing people, thinks homosexuals should be executed, and wants to marry the church and the state.

How upset you gonna be when such a person dies?

The leader of our country. Elect a demagogue, expect violence.

The hatefulness in general needs to be toned down. The MSM has no interest in doing so, it will be up the each and every individual to decide for themselves that they have had enough.

The MSM is so funny. They seem to have no clue. CNN was doing a story on protecting members of Congress yet never mentioned this:

We are all afraid’: Murkowski says fear of retaliation from Trump administration is ‘real

or this:

Romney: GOP members feared far-right violence ahead of key votes

There we go, political assassination of enemies is not a consequence but an expectation when Orange Man Bad zealots don't get their way at the ballot box. What we saw in Butler and Utah is voting from the rooftops, vengeance for not voting Democrat.
