House Republicans reached a tentative deal with the White House on Saturday night to address the nation’s borrowing limit and avoid a catastrophic default on U.S. sovereign debt, Speaker Kevin McCarthy confirmed.

McCarthy and President Joe Biden spoke about three hours before the speaker delivered formal remarks about the agreement.

Unless the deal is "sit down and shut up republicans, we're doing this with or without you" then Joe has just lost my respect.

Sounds like 'ol Joe was bent over like a little bitch.

Trumpists love terrorists.

I kept saying he should invoke the 14th, but he also had a very good point that there would be a lag before it gets to SCOTUS and in that time default would happen and the world economy splattered. I can't very well say he should appear tough for the sake of appearing tough all else damned if I criticize it in them.

The main fault I find is not filing a suit for declaratory judgment (if possible given standing/etc issues) when he took office so it might be resolved finally. That law is plainly unconstitutioanl.

At any rate, for me, respect or not, if a Trumpist is the GOP nominee I'm voting for the D...

An issue like this is at best a tie. If reporting is correct no drastic cuts and more importantly the ceiling is off the table until 2025. The rest looks like small potatoes to let each side say they won.

That's the spirit.

According to McCarthy.

We'll see exactly what he means by "historic spending cuts".

It has historic reductions in spending, consequential reforms that will lift people out of poverty into the workforce, rein in government overreach. There are no new taxes, no new government programs. There's a lot more within the bill," McCarthy said.

Well, I'm glad they worked things out, but I'm disappointed our Senate has turned into a useless branch of the legislature.

So hoping the HOUSE MAGATS totally reject McCarthy's deal with the Devil!

Seems likely there's more of a chance House weenies (Democrats) would reject the deal since Biden gave the GOP basically everything and the kitchen sink.

I think there is a good chance a large number may but not the majority. As ironic as it is, this may be a truly bipartisan bill with the sensible representatives on each side coming together against the extremes.

Historic since when?
You can technically call anything historic, it's just a matter of context.

For example the dump I took today was historic.

As in, it was the biggest one I took today.

You meant the House weenies.

No kidding.

Remember Biden's claim of his historic cuts to the budget deficit of $1.7 trillion when the reality is it was simply temporary Covid programs ending?

No. I meant exactly what I said.

The Senate took no part in this debt ceiling issue, which was their job. They are useless when it comes to the legislative process.

I blame the Republican party completely for this manufactured crisis. The debt ceiling was raised multiple times during the previous administration.

Man...

How many man hours on the REVENGE AGENDA were lost by HOUSE MAGAT leader McCarthy on this Default Debacle?

What a shame!

First it was all the time lost getting him elected HOUSE MAGAT SPEAKER and now all of this time wasting on default wrangling.

Poor guy!
