I'd be happy with 30k, I don't even make that.If I can have 125k to myself and pay 125k to help fund stuff like schools, roads, and other infrastructure then I'd be happy to do it. 30k income isn't very much these days.

You can't make that conclusion. Your "poll" was worded in a way that the situation was in a vacuum, with no difference in difficulty or amount of work.
I'm not aware that I said it was.
I don't hate you for that
This is a reminder to all who have not voted in this poll. This poll is closing very soon.
Its still a really really STUPID poll
You are hopelessly lost in a world of envy and disconnected logic. Let me help you out. Very few people hate taxes as much as you think they pretend to and very few people pretend to hate taxes. People do hate the IRS. They hate the tax code ("code" being the operative word). They hate dishonest politicians. They hate that their earnings are being spent to sell and prop up other bad policies that add more code to the code. There are plenty of things related to taxes that people like me hate. The tax itself isn't it.
In short, the premise is wrong, the poll is meaningless, and everything the thread accomplished is a mirage.
the poll is not a fair poll, a blind man can see from 10 blocks, under A you going to have 30,000 and B your going to have 125,000....anyone would working in the own self interest would want the latter.
I'd vote option B. I'd rather have more money. Although it's still unjust and unfair for the government to take 50% of that.
Outstanding post!!!
God, I love reading your posts, especially those like this one, that go straight to the heart of the issue without any fluff or pretense.
Well done. Again.
SO you wouldn't mind 3/4 of your labor and time doing that labor going to someone who didn't earn it?
And you cannot see the difference between $30,000 and $125,000?
What about hrs worked, expenses/COL etc. Also, you may do fine with 30 in some places, while 125 don't get you very far in others. Paying a hefty mortgage or living in a trailer park, kids going to college, combined income or personal income?
Too many questions need to be answered first.
You didn't.
Kobie, Lovebug and Lursa; Have you voted yet? This poll is closing soon.
Here's another question. You're making the $30,000 and even though you didn't pay taxes you still get a refund. Of course that has to come from somewhere so it comes from the people paying 30, 40 even 50 percent of their income in paying takes. Do you
a) resent and vilify them and say how unfair it is that they make more
Or
B) happily spend the money and maybe even work to position yourself to where you to could make a higher income
I don't vote in poison pill polls but B would make sense mathematically.
You seem to be in the minority.
I would choose:
C) A $250,000 income with a 0.00 tax burden
Duh, I misplaced my calculator.
Don't particularly like Rush, but please keep your delusions that everyone who disagree with a progressive income tax system and a broken social safety net system is a Rush thrall.
No I don't remember specifically saying anything about the income tax system being a disincentive towards people working. I believe I mentioned that it takes money away from being used in the economy to better effect than the government can use it for. I also note that we do need a tax system of some sort as we do have to provide for infrastructure. Any debate as to what is legitimate infrastructure and such is the subject of another thread. I know I have mentioned that I believe that the Fair Tax bill is the better tax system than a progressive tax system.
As to our social net systems, I have never said that people turn down good jobs to stay on these programs, but when getting an entry level job can cost you your welfare or SNAP benifits, leaving you at less overall income than remaining unemployed, then the system is broken. My sister is on disability. She's working hard on getting a Masters so that she can get off and get a job that pays enough to be over what she gets for disability. But she has to watch what income she gets because if she gets so much then they take away the disability and she will actually be at less than the disability itself. I don't disagree with the intended purpose of the programs in and of themselves, although I do contend that private charities could do the job more efficiently and better weed out those who just want to skate on other people's dime. I object to the way that the programs are run that end up leaving people trapped in these programs for multiple generations.
Nope, and I'm not going to.
Do you know the consequences of your non-action?
There aren't any.
I can't tell if this is serious or not.. Would anyone really settle for $95,000 less dollars AFTER TAXES? I would still rather have 250K with 125K after taxes than 125K with no taxes, because the first gives self satisfaction of helping create a better society than the latter does.

In 42 minutes it will be all over. That is when I will begin compiling my final list of people who commented in this thread but failed to vote. They will all get a grade of F but that is not all. I will always be guessing at what their answer would have been if they would have voted. You are not as safe as you might think. Do you really want an F? Do you really want me to proxy vote on your behalf? It isn't exactly fair.
Then give a really stupid answer. Remember if you don't answer I will guess at what you would have chosen and I will give you an F.
I have been here 8+ years. Thousands of likes. You have been here less than a year. You are the student, I am the master. you don't have the credentials to grade most of the posters here. YOur silly poll doesn't have sufficient information.
Best post in the thread.
Testify, brother! Let the petulance ring out!
This is a reminder to all who have not voted in this poll. This poll is closing very soon.
Yes, because without taxes all publicly funded organizations that benefit us every day will slowly deteriorate, thus leading to a much more dangerous and unstable society. Pay now, benefit later.
petulance really has no relevance here
now as to the OP-yes
