"Let not him who is houseless pull down the house of another, but let him labor diligently and put one up for himself, thus by example assuring that his own shall be safe from violence when built."

"It is not the fault of the system if a man does not rise above the position of wage-earner, but because of either a dependent nature which prefers it, or improvidence, folly, or singular misfortune." -- Abe Lincoln

Which party wants the man that expanded slavery by turning the whole of the nation into political slaves? People might think by welcoming Abraham Lincoln into their party they are welcoming a man that ended slavery, but I assure you that making it so the union can never split only expanded it.

Welcome to the forum....

As to your question? Neither one.

Probably Libertarian. He doesn't fit into what has become known as the major parties.

Libertarians commonly don't care for Lincoln.

"Abe Lincoln would almost certainly belong to the modern Democratic Party. When he was president the republican party was the party of liberalism. Lincoln increased governments interference into many aspects of social life, creating grants for colleges to be built in every state of the union. He also signed the Revenue Act of 1861, creating the first income tax in US history. He subsidized the railroads, created the department of Agriculture, and sold Federally subsidized land in the West.
So lets recap. There's a politician who creates income taxes, subsidizes the economy, increases federal bureaucracy, and interferes heavily with states rights?
Sounds like a liberal to me."

Yahoo answers to the rescue?

And Lincoln people don't care for Libertarians..

Did you ever ask yourself what would have happened if the free states seceded instead of the slave states? Do you honest think the war was fought by the north to end slavery? Do you want to know the principle behind the reason the north waged war on the south? Do you want to know why Lincoln edged on the south to attack first? The answer isn't what public schools taught you.

My understanding is that the party was that at the time the GOP was very pro-business. Expansion of public education was part of the "free labour" movement that wanted to create a class of entrepreneurs, the Revenue Act was a temporary measure (It was Woodrow Wilson (D) who created the first permanent income tax), industrialists had little objection to federal subsidies and the Federal Land grants was pretty much land privatization.
He also started a war and suspended Habeus Corpus and was frequently accused of doing the bidding of big industry, which kind of reminds me of Bushbama.

And we are still fighting the same battles over 150 years later on the internet..
Did you ever ask yourself what would have happened if the free states seceded instead of the slave states?
Why would they??
Do you honest think the war was fought by the north to end slavery?
Another huge internet rivision topic for at least two sides..
Do you want to know the principle behind the reason the north waged war on the south?
sure--why not
Do you want to know why Lincoln edged on the south to attack first?
How long was Lincoln even in D.C. to become involved in how deep you are going??
The answer isn't what public schools taught you.
None of my ancestors hit the states until after 1900..As a retired chem/physics teacher, I'm fascinated with history and can't get enough on H1 and H2..In fact, television Science and academics came in during my time in underground College in 1971-76 .

He'd be a Democrat. Abe is the reason the "stop meddling with my affairs you big bad government" is such a geographic ideological phenomenon. It's no coincidence that ideology is based most fiercely in the south.

Yes yes, the states vs fed battle has been around since the founders, but Abe saw it evolve into a civil war in which hundreds of thousands died. You don't get over that kind of resentment easily.
