Can't really ask for a better "good guy," and you certainly cannot find a more perfect example of what goes wrong.

The pastor drew his firearm and ordered the suspect to stop, Smith said. The suspect moved toward the front door, then lunged, disarmed, and fatally shot the pastor.

Two people were also injured -- one from a gunshot wound, and another from falling. The surviving gunshot victim was in surgery Sunday, and his condition is unknown, Smith said.

And, guess who actually got him? Cops, professionals--not just some unprepared amateur, "good guy" with gun.

The suspect fled the scene in a stolen vehicle belonging to the pastor and was pursued by a Harrison County deputy who was able to disable the vehicle and take the suspect into custody, Smith said.

Yep, killed by his own gun:

"A pastor was shot dead with his own gun Sunday after a car chase suspect who hid from Texas police in a church overnight wrestled the weapon off him and opened fire.
The victim, who has not been named, was found dead at the Starrville Methodist Church near Winona. A second person was wounded in the shooting.
Sgt. Larry Christian of the Smith County Sheriff´s office said deputies were called to the church about a reported shooting around 9:20 a.m.
It believed the suspect - who is now in custody - had been involved in a car chase the previous night, CBS reports.
"

A sad loss but just backs up stats the having a gun makes you less safe.

The myth of the good guy with a gun is debunked again. One of these days, the gun zealots will realize they have been fed a line of BS by the NRA, which is really only after their money.

Yes, owning a gun makes you less safe. Having a gun in your house is, in fact, almost as dangerous as having alcohol in your refrigerator.

What myth? "Good guy with a gun?" Are you saying that because this man was killed with his own gun, that there are no good people with guns? How does one incident of a man with a gun being murdered debunk anything?

Somehow I doubt that the Eucharist wine played a part in the pastor's death.

The myth that "oh, but if only there were more good guys with guns in (fill in blank) fewer people would have died." That myth.

No. But chances are very good that throughout his life far more of his parishioners perished from an alcohol-related death than were killed by gun violence.

Yes, people die. Sadly, however, about another 40,000 of them die every year because of guns.

Then this incident doesn't disprove that at all. The only thing it disproves is that a good guy with a gun cannot be killed.

Typical

Good guy with gun is an ignorant catch phrase that has no real world application

Yes they do. And it is sad. And we should definitely try to prevent these deaths by making the misuse of firearms illegal. And we have done so.

Outlawing firearms is not warranted. It is draconian overreach, because it takes more than 40,000 dead Americans to justify outlawing an unnecessary recreational activity that can be dangerous when abused.

Is that a serious question?
I've got 60 people shot to death with 850 injured in Vegas in 2017. Can you top that?

No. But chances are very good that throughout his life far more of his parishioners perished from an alcohol-related death than were killed by gun violence.
Irrelevant.

Yeah, imagine you grab a beer out of your frig and an intruder disbeers you and pours the beer in your mouth!

Have you been hanging out in the gun forum for too long? They're starting to rub off on you. No sexual innuendo intended.

horsepoop. If you are afraid to own a gun, then don't. But stop pretending guns endanger the lives of everyone who owns one or more

So this is what 2021 is coming to. A return to the days when church shootings were newsworthy.

Perhaps. Once the idiot in chief leaves DC, lots of mundane things will be news again.

So what ?

You're still more at risk having a gun in the home, than not.

That is the point

Yes, you probably enjoy better heath with alcohol and nicotine, but society in no Westernized country will give up either
