Do you care? If you found out an author had an opposite opinion to one that you feel strongly about, would you get rid of his/her books, not read his/her books anymore?

I can't think of an author that I've "boycotted" because of their personal opinions. There are many that I won't read because they just aren't good writers. I know a lot of people won't read Colleen Hoover books because of the storylines she writes.

I don't read D.H. Lawrence because he had a bad attitude toward women, and it showed. Pissed me off.

I've never read one of his books, but I did add Lady Chatterley's Lover to my list to read sometime this year.

A lot of women love that book. Enjoy if you can!

I try not to let my appreciation of anyone's artistic work be affected by what I know about their opinions, their politics, their sexual orientation ... or even their criminal activity. I might personally boycott some individual's current work output by not purchasing it, ... but a novel is a novel, a painting is a painting, a movie is a movie, a song is a song, etc., etc. I'm not going to step off the dance floor just because a Michael Jackson tune comes on, or turn off a movie because Kevin Spacey is in it, or not laugh at a joke by Bill Cosby when I hear one.

Someone could be a total scumbag in their personal life, but that doesn't necessarily make their art less of an inspiration for me.

I don’t care what an author’s politics are, if I like what he writes, I’ll buy his books. Same for movies and music, beer, stores, anything else. Everyone is authorized to have a political opinion. But if I sold stuff, anything, I’d keep my politics to myself, expressing them might be bad for business. But that is up to them. You sell a good product, provide good service, you make me happy as a customer, I don’t give a coyote’s howl about your politics. Just keep on giving me those good products, good services and make me a happy camper as a customer.

I vote for banning beer, banning Disney, banning Keurig, banning Starbucks, banning Target, and banning any books that offend my fee fees.

I still read David Drake novels and watch Mel Gibson movies.

I've "boycotted" Bentley Little. But it wasn't for political reasons. Let's just say he tends to have some very graphic sexual stuff in his books.

The worst was The House. After that, as far as i was concerned, i wanted nothing more to do with his stuff. Let me just say this about that: It made me wonder why he isn't on certain law enforcement watch lists and why he shouldn't be allowed near schools or parks.

Same. There are many times when the author's politics does make it into the book, but as long as the work is entertaining, Im all for it.

I have often done it. It makes no sense to read a book and find out the edifice stands on "there is no God" or "abortion is a great thing" or "we have global warming"
This is why there used to be a plethora of what are called Journals of Opinion . at the very least you are lied if your news source or book or author doesn't discuss aborotion or perversion because they've gotten rid of a baby or played the perv.
I am with Socrates "If you would be wise in what matters you must be ignorant in all the things that don't" I've run my life that way

If I don't like the writing, I am not going to read the book regardless of views.
