Congressional Republicans and Democrats authorized a disaster relief package for hard-hit Asheville NC. Then Trump's HUD Secretary, Scott Turner, demanded changes this month to our city's Small Business Program charter before he would allow funding to flow to devastated areas here. It is so hypocritical to tout local control but then keep federal hands on our city's business. Even worse, people here are suffering, waiting while Washington plays politics with us. When Trump visited he should never have lied to us about disaster aid.

Republicans abandoned the conservative principle of subsidiarity long ago when municipalities started doing things they didn’t like.

Republicans found the jack boots fit nice.

He didn't lie.

Your city chose to give DEI recipients preference in violation of Trump's EO ending DEI in the federal government. And then, your city chose to change their decision about DEI and they removed their DEI language.

You are whining about a non-issue.

That's true. Trump lying is a non-issue. We know when he opens his mouth he's lying. We know MAGA will defend his past lies and believe his next lies. This is not an issue. It's a fact.

What if a state or municipality doesn't want to enforce Trump's "Whites Only" executive orders?

Sorry, your Race Card is overdrawn.

It's Trump's card, not mine. He's the one triggered when a minority gets a loan or a job.
Trump's EO has nothing to do with race.

The Democratic Party happened to it.

Trump's EO has nothing to do with race.
Then what does diversity, equity, and inclusion mean? Obviously, Trump opposes its meaning. In Asheville we are attempting to end a century, or two, of whites getting nearly all city contracts for work. We had a plan. Now, what would your plan be?
