Now that the government owns AIG, lock stock and barrel, you and I own it - After all, its our tax money that paid for the takeover. So, since we ARE now the proud new owners of the world's largest insurer, how about renaming AIG to something a little more appropriate?

Vote on the new name for AIG.

I have AIG, does this mean I get my coverage for free? Isn't that how socialism works?

No, it means that not only do you pay for your policy, your tax dollars pay for the policy of somebody abusing welfare.

I prefer "Tax and Spend Republicans"

As much as I like "The Public Welfare Group", I believe there is a long line of others that AIG is at the end of, but I do like the name. :2razz:

Wtf is "AIG"?

and you thought their management had their heads up their asses before.

So how heavy is the rock you're living under?

AIG is the latest group of idiots to **** themselves so badly that they deserve free money. At least, according to the Fed

Fed to Loan A.I.G. $85 Billion in Rescue

The non-issue everyone's all up in arms over....okay, I know about that.

Sorry my lack of familiarity with random acronyms offended you.

Non issue? The government just bought an insurance company for $85 billion. It's definitely an issue. It's the economy, stupid

This has happened before and had such a dramatic impact that no one has a memory of it. Even the stock market crash of the '80s, which was worse than the crash in the 20s, has no place in public memory.

This is so life altering that no one will remember it in 5 years, just as before.

Didn't the Dow Jones fall 50% of it's value in the 20's and then bottomed out at a almost 90% loss during the Depression? In the 1987 the Dow Jones only fell 27%.

I would think given the percentages the 1920s was a worse crash. I"m not an economic expert though.

Something synonymous with the word 'scam.'

We have banks losing money, and now insurances companies doing the same thing.

Give me any bank to run, and although I know nothing about banking, that institution will make money. All that would be required to be profitable would be to follow tried-and-true business practices that were invented millennia ago. Lend this much money, at this competitive rate, and require this much collateral. No problem.

And AIG, an insurance company, failed? Well, there are these actuarial tables, and you cover this loss for this much money, with the risk spread over this pool. Its simple math.

Management sucks when it can't keep the simplest, surest type of business solvent.

But, anyway, the scam is although we weren't involved in sharing the reward when AIG was profitable, we are forced to rescue AIG now that its a loser.

My HOI and Auto insurance is with AIG. I called them today and told them that since my tax dollars bailed them out that I shouldn't have to make anymore payments for the next couple of years. They didn't think it was very funny. So I said, at the very least they should reduce my premiums. No such luck. I said fine, I guess I am in the market for a new insurance company. Then I hung up on them.
