I just read the recent Budgetary report hyped by the current administration....which prompted me to ask a very simple question:

What Makes a Lie?

Poor choice of possible answers...how about INTENTIONALLY telling a falsehood? Mistakes causing misstatements aren't lies...they are mistakes. Saying the same thing when you KNOW it to be untrue is a lie.

And, half the truth is not the truth...that's why, when sworn in court, the oath is, "...the truth, the WHOLE truth, and nothing but the truth."

***You may want to step back to an administration (or to the president) that stated on national TV that he didn't have sex with that woman....Monica Lewinski.

Everyone knows Clinton Lied Kid....Even the most hardcore Democrats......the Poll is in reference to the Budget statement, feel like actually addressing that.

***Perhaps you could supply us with a few particulars of the so-called budget lies, so that we could make a judgement. Doesn't our budget plans go through Congress first, before landing on the president's desk for approval?

And understand what most Americans will take away from this:

WASHINGTON (CNN) -- "President Bush held a news conference in the Rose Garden of the White House on Wednesday, addressing topics including North Korea, Iraq and the Foley scandal. Here is a full transcript of his opening comments and a question-and-answer session.

BUSH: Before I take your questions, I'd like to discuss a couple subjects.

First, I want to briefly mention that today we've released the actual budget numbers for the fiscal year that ended on September the 30th. These numbers show that we have now achieved our goal of cutting the federal budget deficit in half, and we've done it three years ahead of schedule."

thus the poll....and the questions. Does this subterfuge constitute a Lie....or merely selective reporting?

Legally its intent or willful blindness of a high degree. The first would be Clinton-the latter would be dems who claim that Bush lied about WMD

another version of a lie is what we call "pretext" in Title VII litigation. This normally happens when an employer is charged with firing a person for racial or other illegal reasons but stating the employee was fired because of non-discriminatory reasons. Sometimes the reasons advanced are sufficient to justify the firing. However, with certain proof paradigms, the jury may correctly believe that the advanced reasons were merely a pretext for the true reason-discrimination.

an example of this in political arenas are the dems pretending to care about congressional pages or claiming they support gun control to stop crime. in both instances, those legitimate reasons for their actions are mere pretext for a political agenda. that too is a form of lie

In other words.....You really dont want to discuss the actual , Posted Information....which is OK.

Just take your rediculous Dem Hatred to any of the dozen other threads you made to do so. Honestly....there is a reason I pay little attnetion to you, and I'm not even a Democrat....heh.

If , however, you wish to explain the discrepancy found in The Presidents statement when compared to the fiscal reality layed out by the rest of the Government Data.....I am listening.

It is also important, in my mind, to point out that ongoing war costs are not a part of this bugetary process, as This warfare is payed for by simply asking the congress for "Special" funding to continue military action.

"Bush Proposes Record Defense Budget, Cuts in Domestic Programs
On Monday, President Bush unveiled a $2.77 trillion budget for fiscal 2007 (which begins 1 October), with record defense spending, domestic spending cuts, deficit spending and no on-budget acknowledgement of the ongoing costs of the conflicts in Iraq and Afghanistan.

The 2007 budget includes a request of $439 billion for defense, a record figure that does not include the cost of the Iraq-Afghanistan conflicts, which have ranged from $4.4 - 7.1 billion per month since fiscal year 2003."

Again.....is this simple removal of Data....or a Lie?

I don't understand, you post debt, but the quote you provided form Bush was on the deficit. I thought those were different. I don't believe Bush lied.

Actually this thread is a perfect example.....Its a lie.........

How do you tell when a politician is lying? His lips are moving.

Do you honestly expect apologists to come out and say they doesn't give a **** about Bush's prevarications because he gives them warm fuzzy feelings? If reality doesn't coincide with the words coming out of his mouth, that's not Bush's fault, it's yours for questioning what he says. If you'd stop doing that, then none of this would be a problem.

Thinking something that you know is not true.
