Back in September of 2021, I made a post about vaccine mandates, and it is still getting a lot of traffic. Looks like what I wrote struck a nerve on both sides of the debate. Now we're into year 3 of the pandemic and the topic of vaccine mandates has become a big issue. I want to know your viewpoint on this topic.

Before you answer, keep in mind, that there's already vaccine requirements for 8-10 different types of vaccines in this country. If you want to attend a school or work in the health-care industry or a governmental job, you need to get vaccinated for at least 8 different vaccines. Polio, Small Pox, Influenza, Measles, Mumps, Rubella, Pertussis, Pneumococcal disease, and Chicken Pox. When I did a summer job for an adult daycare center, I had to get the TB shot. The Polio and Small Pox shots were mandatory at the state level. If you didn't get those shots, you got fined.

The Biden Administration currently imposes a vaccine mandate for federal workers and federal contractors.

Here are your options:

OPTION A - The federal government needs to impose MORE vaccine mandates. This means, we should consider things such as adding a federal tax for people who refuse to get vaccinated, or require more kinds of businesses to get vaccinated.

OPTION B - There is nothing more the federal government can do here, when it comes to vaccine mandates. Keep the Biden vaccine mandate rules. The federal government needs to instead encourage people to get vaccinated, boosted, or take the pill.

OPTION C - Remove the Biden federal mandate. It is only causing problems and making people resent getting vaccinated. The federal government needs to instead encourage people to get vaccinated, boosted, or take the pill.

OPTION D - The federal government needs to stay out of the vaccine business period. They are simply not working. We should focus our energy on treatment for covid victims rather than forcing people to get a placebo pill/shot.

Option A.

I'm actually opposed to mandates. One year ago I would have had the opposite opinion. One year ago I thought most folks would have enough sense to.get their shots and we wouldn't need mandates. I grossly overestimated the intelligence of the average conservative. They are prolonging this deadly disease, raising the body count, and restricting everyone else's freedoms.

Mandate away, Joe!

Vaccines clearly work. If everyone is vaccinated it will significantly slow the spread. It will obviously keep people out of the hospital. It's time to make it mandatory for everyone. The good people of this world shouldn't have to suffer because of ignorant animals.

I don't understand the language of option D: what do you mean by "placebo pill/shot"? The vaccine is not a placebo.

I feel the same way. If these idiots can't see what's happening and learn from it then it's time to make their decisions for them.

Well said, however I'm all in on mandates, isolate the politicized morons from the rest of society.

I agree. It's not a placebo. However, there are people who think the covid19 shots/pills are just a sugar pill. Gives people the impression of helping, but is really not. Basically the option was designed for the conspiracy/Alex Jones types.

Agreed. Just look at the debate surrounding anti-body treatment for covid19 patients in hospitals. The Biden Administration divided out these anti-bodies evenly among the states. They are in limited supply. The states that don't apply vaccine and mask mandates are seeing their hospitals, their resources being filled up to the gills. Florida and Texas are already demanding more anti-body treatments, larger than their share. Their poor management is causing problems for the rest of us.

Option A, Unfortunately, there's a large group of people that are marching off a huge cliff. Even worse, they have ropes tied around the rest of the population in order to make sure those that have enough sense to NOT march off the cliff are still being pulled to their deaths.
And even more, the ones marching off the cliff are the very ones that bitch and whine about the economy and the fall of America's leadership in the world.
The Truth is: You can't expect the marchers to do anything to help themselves and others. We have to force them to save everybody. Yes..they are too God-Damn stupid to even be aware of what's going on...

Public Health issues require 'A' This is necessary, like most laws, to force right behavior that many won't do.

I don't like mandates either, but it is an unfortunately reality of our society. Because diseases impact everybody in our society, it is not really an issue of "freedom". It is necessity to keep the republic intact. Nobody wants to get a shot in the arm and have two days of feeling lousy. But it is a necessary for a functioning society.

Lets consider the facts. The people advocating for mandates were the same people that blindly believed that the vaccines would prevent people from getting COVID. They are the same people that blindly believed they would prevent the spread of COVID when the prevention from contracting the disease turned out to be a lie. Today, they settle on...well...it will keep people out of the hospitals...but we know from the numbers that since July that trend has been going upwards with the number of people hospitalized that have been vaccinated.

Additionally....the people that blindly defend mandates have literally no idea how effective the vaccines are against variants, or how long they may work if they are effective. The most recent reports show that even with the boosters they are only effective for about 10 weeks. Maybe. We think. Could be. Who knows.

None of those that blindly defend the mandates have the first clue nor care about ADE and the long term impact that will have on individuals and their ability to fight off even common ailments. None of those that blindly defend the mandates have a clue about natural immunity and the concept of herd immunity...that ever shifting mythological percentage...is a dream that once was.

But then...these are also the people that blindly swallowed the "Masks arent effective, no wait...they are effective...everyone should wear them, and hey...come to think of it, wear two, no wait...never mind....just one, but in case we didnt tell you 2 years ago...the cloth masks you are wearing are useless. But...WEAR MASKS....ANY mask...whatever. These are the same people that blindly swallowed the COMPLETELY FABRICATED 6 foot social distancing rule...a 'mandate' made not because it was the correct distance based on science, but rather...it was the distance they agreed by consensus that the people would tolerate.

Option C. I'm hopeful SCOTUS's decision will be a big step toward option C but we'll see.

The option I support is requiring the vaccine in order to do most things in public. In addition, when reading through article comments recently, i saw that someone had the idea to let health insurance companies significantly raise premiums for the unvaccinated, as they generate crushing costs and strain on the healthcare system. I'd say that having to pay a lot more for insurance might make a potential anti-vaxer a little less open to anti-vax woo woo propaganda.

I have mixed feelings about it so I guess I'm "other". I believe vaccine mandates are appropriate in certain situations but I also believe the mandate should be imposed by the appropriate level of government. I think each level of government has jurisdiction over certain institutions and the level above should not usurp that jurisdiction either by forcing a mandate or disallowing a mandate.

I think that the Federal government should mandate things under their control like the military, federal employees, air travel, borders etc. States should have control over State employees and other institutions under their jurisdiction and municipalities should have control over their employees and schools. Private businesses should have the right to impose mandates in their workplace without government interference, for or against.

You are for vaccine mandates though as so long as they are enforced by the right level of government. Or do I have this wrong?

Yes, that is what I meant when I said " I believe vaccine mandates are appropriate in certain situations but I also believe the mandate should be imposed by the appropriate level of government"

However, equally important is that I believe that another level has no right to interfere with that decision. For example, I do not believe a Governor has the right to dictate what a school board might decide, nor the right to interfere with a business that imposes mandates.

BTW I feel the same about masks. Leave the decision with the appropriate level of government or with private business.

You believe mandates are appropriate for covid vaccines but federal mandates do not trump the power of the states? If DeSantis says no, you're okay with that then?

I'd say "do more", but your example of imposing a tax on the unvaccinated doesnt sound like it would fly.
But I'm in between "A" and "B", and think that more should be done.

That would certainly be a great way for people to flex their FrEeDuMbZ$™.
