What is the purpose of the UN

It seems to me that no one takes it serious. Its resolutions are broken repeatedly without recourse.

Name some positive things the UN has done?

With counties like China and Russia (reverting more and more to its communist state everday) on the security counsil.

Also when the UN decides on action what army do they use?

Why not just pull out of the UN completely or just withdraw US contributions to it to levels comparable to the average member country.

Oil for food was clearly corrupt, Iraq broke 15 UN resolutions and the world still wanted to wait and watch. Now Iran is doing the same thing. I dont know the solution to these things but I dont think the UN is worth the money dumped into it
 
I don't think you'll get too much of an argument from the folks here.
 
Hi, its my first post here after watching for a while, and this seems as good a time as any...

Essentially I don't believe the UN is as bad as it could be, or as bad as the first poster states. The UN is always only going to be as strong as the countries that make it up. If a sizable number of the countries perceive that it is not in their best intrests to push for action/supply troops etc then the UN can become bogged down or unable to act at all. Especially if one of the security council members digs its feet in. Examples of countries acting in their own intrests like this and hobbling the UN's efforts include Russia (over Iraq) and even the US itself (e.g Israel)

The UN needs the membership, and active participation, of powerful countries like the US and China because otherwise it will become as weak and irrelivant as the League of Nations did before it.

The UN was designed to prevent the world for experiencing another holocaust; however, the UN has become a toothless, declawed lion...who is the joke of the zoo.

I'll be one of the first to throw a party if/when we ever withdraw from that joke of an organization.
 
It's time to get the UN out of the US, and the US out of the UN. I have no doubt that another country would love to host it. Let China have it .. or france or Germany or Russia... Anywhere but here. It serves no purpose, has no real power and is not worth the money that we spend on it.

Why are we continuing to waste our time and money on this useless entity
 
The UN has only succeeded in doing these things:

1. Appeasing terrorists by allowing them to address the UN.

2. Never, ever winning any type of armed conflict they engage in and typically call US and others to bail them out.

3. Make condemning statements that do absolutely nothing to curb terrorist actions, but think that they will.

4. Protect it's member diplomats and or family members from prosecution from a scandal.
 
What major war has USA been in the last 50 year without UN mandate?

Well Vietnam and Iraq...

There is UN engaged today well from the Kosovo that finally are stable and soon will have there independen. To Kongo and Liberia there they secure democratic election.

The US did not have an UN mandate about the war against Yugoslavia. Kosovo is stable, because the Albanian nationalists ethnically cleaned her. The NATO gave them the conditions they needed.

Yes, the DRC and Liberia are good examples, hopefully. While I don't think, there were many US troops in the DRC, Liberia is an example for US troops doing well.

You mean the latest about Kosovo? Well yes no but it was a good example of both flexibility and legitimacy. That it was a war that it was international support but had problem with some security counsel members. But it could become a UN mission after the fact and it gave the war also official legitimacy (even if it of course was after the fact). That at the same time it lead to it was not just NATO countries involved but also other UN members was involved in stable the country. Also yes it was some ethnically cleansing sadly, even if you can understand the Albans. But it stills live a lot of Serbs in Kosovo, even if of course many have moved.

Yep that is the sad part that the strongest members in the UN are useally not that happy sending their troops to conflict there they don't have a personell intrest. But now EU is starting to step up a bit, but then it comes to USA the seems like they stuck in Iraq. Because it’s seems like then USA tries to be the lone ranger and do big wars by themself against the will of the rest of the world, things don’t turn out that good.

It was a crime more criminals agreed to. Obviously Albright was more successful in selling her lies than Powell was.

Yes, they are living at places where they are many and strong enough to defend themselves.

European countries usually loose money with these missions, countries like Bangladesh earn money with these missions. This way or that way, I would rather see the EU countries to do less of these missions.
 

I don't want the UN controlling any of our armed forces or our soldiers. I have no desire to put my lives or the lives of my children in the hands of kofi or some french general. Sorry if I am going to fight, it's going to be under the flag of the US, not a toothless old lion thats going to leave my azz out in te wind.

As for fighting the wars.. There comes a time when someone has to do it. Sitting doing nothing rarely works. You can't talk it to death, you can't appease it away. The will of the rest of the world comes secondary over the security of our country. This is the same attitude that is used by any other nation. I will not put the security of this nation in the hands of the un or anyone else except this country.

nowhere in my sig does it say the Israeli rockets have no problems launching,

but more recently several israeli rockets seemed to of diverted away from their course killing 18 sleeping palestinians in the Gaza strip.

Tell you what... If you stop hurling rockets and martrys at them they might stop defending themselves against you. They can't be that worried about the covilians being that they fire there rockets from populated areas so they have the human shield spectators. Stop attacking them and vowing to destroy them and they will stop defending. If you do that and they continue to fire rockets and tank rounds at you the world opinion might change. If you fire one rocket at them they have the right and the duty to fire 1000 back at where ever they think they came from. I don't see this ever happeneing to you recognize at least there right to exsist
 
Your inhaminity is extraordinary. The reason I say this is because can you not understand that when a section of the community is treated so appallingly that it would not respond with what, to you, seems like injustice, but in actual fact is a natural human defensive response.

It is only in fairly recent times that Israel has started to engage the Palestinians and (so graciously) allowed them to have their own governemnt. Lets not forget that Israel operated an apartheid regime not so long ago - no different to the same system governing South Africa.

Martyrs are created because of a deep rooted feeling of oppression. Do you think that it is an easy choose to die when you are young? Do you think it is easy for a parent to encourage their child to die? One of the things that we need to be careful of is de-humanising people. Aren't you aware that martyrdom-thinking is generated by desparation and that it is usually injustice that is the most common cause?

The hatred that exists between the Arabs and the Jews is outrageous, remarkable and full of stupidity. However, the fact still remains - Israel and the way it operates is a terrorist state, just like the USA.

It's natural human response to fire rockets into civillian populated area's from civillian populated area's? My mistake, I thought it was a ploy to use citizens as human shields and claim propagand through civilian deaths when retailiation occurs.


It's your own people oppressing you. I think dying is rarley an easy choose under any circumstances. I think any parent that encourages there children to die should be shot, and draged out of town. The people doing the dehumanising are the ones detonating bombs in cafe's and restaraunts. Using innocent peoples as shields to use there deaths as fooder for propaganda and recruitment.

This is coming from someone that knowingly allows a terrorist organization to run there country. I'm sorry but the longer you knowingly target civilians the only one in a terrorist nation would be you. I do not think for one second that every move or decision my country makes is correct. You choose to be victims, you choose to be shields, you choose to terrorist...... Choice is great, living with the consequences can sometimes be a bitch

I agree.

It is absolutely terrible that palestinian terrorists got 18 sleeping men women and children killed by firing rockets at Israeli civilian populations from near where they slept knowing Israel would fire back.

Tashah we have another friend of Israel!
