What if you were transgender?

Imagine that your body was the other biological gender, while you are who you are as a person, the same man or woman identity.

What would you do? How would you cope with it?

It's worth taking a moment to think about, just to increase (or start to have any ) empathy or understanding. Picture what you would do.

I'd think you might be glad that "transgender" is even now a recognized group by the responsible part of the country, and you're not alone.

But just on a personal level, it'd be an overwhelming challenge in your life. Your employment, your friends, and of course any relationships, would be greatly affected. How would you feel about it?

If you think about it, I think you should start to realize how barbaric and ignorant much of the country is on the issue. Think about if you were transgender - and then care about the people who are. Be a good person on it, not a bigot.

I like how you are encouraging the use of empathy. I think a little more empathy would solve some of these societal issues.

I think it'll fail miserably, but at least you are trying in the face of impossible odds, and that's noble.

You mean if I was born male? I would do whatever it takes to have all my genitals and prostate removed, not just wider hips and a simple neutering job.

It doesn't matter if I was born a man or a woman.I'm still going to play with myself.

That's really missing the thread topic.

Hey Craig, what you were
If you think about it, I think you should start to realize how barbaric and ignorant much of the country is on the issue. Think about if you were transgender - and then care about the people who are. Be a good person on it, not a bigot.
You liberals drive me crazy. You actually used the word barbaric in your post.. Hey Craig, what if you were a fetus, would want to be chopped up into little pieces and thrown in a trash can? Barbaric indeed. No liberal hypocrisy to see here folks. Step away from the screen.

I would be a Victoria's Secret model.

Am I viable?
What is my conception date? Is it a few weeks or seven or eight months?
Do I have such profound birth defects that my life will consist of nothing more than a handful of hours of screaming agony?
Did my mother's doctor inform me that she might die giving birth to me?
Was I the product of rape or incest?

See, it's funny how the absence of even the smallest shred of emotional or intellectual maturity on your part prevents you from even contemplating what drives 95% of all abortions.
That's why you interpret the issue as you do, namely "liberals merrily chopping up tender fetuses who just wanted a chance at life while the twin grinning death heads of doctor and mother cheers as the doc wields an axe."

If you were completely right in your post, it has nothing to do with the threat topic.

While your message is good . . . . . empathy, logic, common sense and compassion are things most bigots lack.

Living in the other persons shoes is the way to think about most things though its the best political and human advice I have ever got.

I like this thought experiment

It's hard to say.

I would like to think that I would maybe dress and present myself as feminine but that would be all the further I would go but again it's hard to say since I don't have to live with that.

I definitely would be much happier about being alive today versus 100 years ago. But that's probably a pretty universal thing.

Since I'm not transgender myself I'm not aware of a lot of things they have to deal with, but it doesn't seem like the United States is particularly cruel to transgenders. But then again I don't know it's not my experience.

I had met a few back when I was dating and they were very open about it which I appreciate. That wasn't particularly worried about it. Didn't ask for a second date though so maybe I sent off the wrong vibes.

Well, on a personal level....i would only hope i'd live to be past 35.

Interesting thought exercise. I struggle with it. When I try to do as you suggest, I can’t pinpoint what it is that makes me “feel” male in the first place, such that I could then try to imagine if that part of me was different.

Thanks for trying, fair enough. Actually I didn't ask you to change that for that reason, I asked you to imagine your body was the other gender.

I tried that too and it doesn’t work (for me); it devolves into one of those body swapping movie tropes e.g. the sudden shock of being a man who suddenly is in a woman’s body. Then, if I instead try to imagine that I was born and raised in a woman’s body, my mind appears unable to run that kind of simulation. Hmm.

Again, fair enough.

But hopefully, that's enough to give you some idea of how disorienting it is. Thanks for an honest effort and response.
