This is why Trump is going to “win” the election in November, because of underhanded, vile Republican bull**** such as this.

Wisconsin is already well-known for having some of the most draconian voter suppression laws in the country. In fact, it's very likely that voter suppression laws in Wisconsin depressed voter turnout in African American communities in Milwaukee and Madison during the 2016 election, costing Hillary Clinton the state of Wisconsin. Of course, these voter suppression laws were passed by former Republican Gov Scott Walker and his Republican-controlled legislature several years ago.

What happened on 7 April was worse than anything that the crazed right-wing extremist Republicans in Wisconsin have done in the past. The partisan, Republican-controlled Wisconsin Supreme Court ruled on Monday that Wisconsin could not delay its election due to COVID-19. As a result, thousands of Wisconsin voters were forced to vote in-person today during this COVID-19 crisis. The Democratic Governor and the Democrats in the Wisconsin legislature wanted to delay the voting to a later date, after the worst of this COVID-19 crisis had passed. However, these Democrats were overruled by the Republican-controlled Wisconsin Supreme Court.

As a result, thousands of Wisconsin citizens were forced to wait in long, congested, unsafe lines to vote today. It's obvious that Wisconsin Republicans care very little about the personal health and safety of the citizens of their state. They know the fewer that people vote, the better their chances of winning. If people are waiting in long lines to vote in Democratic strongholds like Milwaukee and Madison, the better chance that Republicans have to win.

In fact, only FIVE voting stations were open in the entire city of Milwaukee. That's right -- FIVE!! 175 polling stations in Milwaukee were closed on Tuesday, due to COVID-19.

This is EXACTLY what the fascist Republicans in the Wisconsin legislature wanted. Republicans in Wisconsin wanted to get a right-wing incumbent re-elected to the Wisconsin Supreme Court on Tuesday, which is why Republicans were so anxious to take advantage of the current COVID-19 situation.

I've never despised Trump and the Republican Party more than I do right now. They are vile, disgusting, anti-American, dangerous assholes. **** them all.

Some more food for thought for the 60% of decent Americans, regarding the recent Wisconsin election rulings by the Wisconsin Supreme Court and the U.S. Supreme Court:

"Election cases, more than any other kind, need courts to be seen by the public as nonpartisan referees of the competing candidates and political parties,” said Edward B. Foley, a law professor at Ohio State University. “It is therefore extremely regrettable that on the very same day, on separate issues involving the same Wisconsin election, both the state and federal supreme courts were unable to escape split votes that seem just as politically divided as the litigants appearing before them".

It's not the job of the court - one judge - to rewrite state election laws on the eve of an election because the governor and legislature can't get their act together to do something themselves.

Can you possibly be any more dishonest and misleading in your post?
Election date was on April 6th and the complaint was that people should be allowed to cast votes up till the 13th, 6 days after the polls closed. Covid-19 has nothing to do with anything. People who were afraid to vote in person had plenty of time to get a mail in ballot and send it in on time.
Your also complaining about 175 sites being closed the day after the election was over.

Every Dem in America will defy coronavirus and the GOP to turn out and vote in the fall.

There are already several accounts of Wisconsin voters stating that they requested their mail-in ballots weeks or months ago, and they still haven't arrived. As a result, they were forced to risk their health and vote in person on Tuesday.

This is the dishonest voter suppression game that Repugs in Wisconsin have been playing for years now. They are despicable, they are fascists, they don't believe in democracy. They will help Trump steal Wisconsin in November by any means necessary.

Yeah, the new Democratic governor is not going to be able to change years of voter suppression laws enacted by the crazed Repug legislature in Wisconsin. You are correct.

I hope you are correct. I seriously have my doubts. Trump is already laying the groundwork to delegitimize the 2020 election, due to "fraudulent" mail-in ballots.

If Democrats win, reversing scumbag Republican voter suppression needs to be a top priority.

How many voters did not recieve their mail in ballots?

"several accounts" (verifiable I'm sure) out of a population of 3.3 mil registered voters. With as good as the Republicans are at suppressing voter turnout, you'd think a Democrat would never ever win office. :doh

courts do not have power to change state election laws. that is up to the Gov and the Legislature.
So based on facts the only people supressing votes was the screwed up Governor.
who is a democrat.

what do you expect from conspiracy theorists.

A nadir is an interesting thing. In the realm of mathematics it can be defined in fairly precise terms. In the realm of human endeavor, not so much. Every time I think that the Republican party and its leadership has reached the lowest point, the most brazen, ultra-partisan, antidemocratic, disgusting, anti-American and inhuman point, they manage to prove me wrong. It happened again yesterday.

Voters in Wisconsin were forced to venture forth despite a "stay at home" order to cast ballots in an election already marred by significant chaos. Literally risking their lives to exercise their franchise.

This isn't a one-off. This is the culmination of a consistent, pervasive pattern, increasingly brazen, to suppress the vote and for a particular voting population - Democrats. It involves party apparatchiks at all levels - local, State and national - and all branches. In Wisconsin, it involved Republican legislative leaders, a Republican-skewed State Supreme Court, and a nakedly partisan US Supreme Court. Op-Ed: How Republicans are using the pandemic to suppress the vote (LA Times, Subscription) ("On Friday, Gov. Tony Evers, a Democrat, called the Legislature into special session on Saturday to consider an election delay and shift to a mostly vote-by-mail election. But the Republicans immediately rejected any change to the election."; The Roberts Court Will Not Ensure the Constitution’s Most Fundamental Right (Slate).

In many cases, they don't even try to hide the blatantly partisan nature of their efforts:
In Georgia, Republican state House Speaker David Ralston has opposed sending absentee ballots to every Georgia voter for the upcoming primary, claiming that such a change “will be extremely devastating to Republicans and conservatives in Georgia. Every registered voter is going to get one of these. … This will certainly drive up turnout.”

In North Carolina, Republican state Senate leader Phil Berger has opposed modest steps proposed by the state’s election director to make mail-in balloting easier during the pandemic, claiming the proposal is one backed by “progressive, liberal Democratic groups” to make absentee ballot tampering easier. Never mind that an earlier instance of vote tampering he pointed to involved helping a Republican congressional candidate.(LA Times)
Trump even joined in the process, claiming that election support funding in the coronavirus bill was aimed at increasing turnout. “They had levels of voting, that if you ever agreed to it, you’d never have a Republican elected in this country again.”

In these explicitly partisan suppression efforts these politicians have a staunch political ally - the conservative majority of the US Supreme Court, who are becoming increasingly blase about their obvious partisanship. Some things are becoming increasingly clear as this COVID crisis endures. Black Americans are dying in greater numbers from Covid-19 (The Guardian). They also happen to be overwhelmingly Democratic voters. Republican politicians have no intention on letting up on voter suppression to gain and maintain power, or letting this crisis interfere with that endeavor. Indeed, they see an opportunity.

A month ago Mark Joseph Stern laid out a potential gameplan: Trump Can’t Cancel the Election. But States Could Do It for Him. (Slate). Repeatedly, State legislatures are manipulating voting processes in their favor, and partisan court members are allowing them to do so. As the LA Times asks, "What’s to stop Trump from appealing to Republican-controlled legislatures in the swing states of Arizona, Michigan, North Carolina, Pennsylvania and Wisconsin to take back this power from voters under the pretext that the risk of COVID-19 makes voting too difficult?" The answer is, nothing. We have not reached the nadir. If you think they couldn't go lower, you have a defect of imagination.

Say something, Deep Stater?

Well if you actually knew what you were talking about then you would have actually posted some facts.

1. The WI primary election was set months ago.
2. The Gov. himself has said on multiple occasions he did not have the power to change the dates.
3. The Gov. tried to pull a last minute hail mary attempt to change the law and the courts did what the courts
are supposed to do and smacked it down.

These are called facts. You should try them sometime not that you will.

the courts do not have the power to change WI state law.

The courts did not have to smack it down. As the law professor that I quoted stated. And, again, he knows more than your partisan Trump cultist ass.

The Republican legislature has purposely made it much more difficult for poor minority groups to vote in the state of Wisconsin. Everyone who has studied this issue knows this. Not that you give a **** about that.

Yes they did. The Gov. does not have the authority to change state law. The lawyer is wrong. The only way for the date to be changed is through legislation.
The courts do not have the power to change law either. if your lawyer doesn't know this then well he needs to get his money back on his law degree.
this was confirmed not only by the state but also the SCOTUS.

again you prove you don't know what you are talking about.

we know you don't care about facts.

Well, here's a fact for you:

Democrats won 54% of the vote in Wisconsin in 2018. The GOP only won 44%.

Yet, Republicans still control over 60% of the state house seats (63 - 35) and a majority of the state senate seats (18 - 15). This is how effectively the fascist Repugs in Wisconsin have gerrymandered the state. Probably the worst gerrymandered state in the country.

Uh-Oh. Here comes the know-it-all, unsophisticated Trump cultist again.

You know more than a law professor. How pathetically Trump cultist of you.

He can end up in prison for the rest of his life if he does.

The worst gerrymandered state until the next primary that is....weirdalfoil_2322.webp

Whatever that means. Great comeback.

It means there will always be another complaint. Voter suppression, ID, absentee ballots, dim lighting near the booths, etc. Today it's Wisconsin. Tomorrow it'll be Alaska, then Georgia and so on. Such is the way...
