What grade would you give Joe Biden for his presidency?

What grade would you give Joe Biden (#46)?

  • Trick question. Trump won in 2020. Biden was never President of the United States

Happy Martin Luther King Jr. Day to you all. Now that the Biden presidency is over (for now;) ), what grade would you give him?

BIDEN POSITIVES/ACHIEVEMENTS
- Signed the American Rescue Plan of 2021
- Issued executive orders to increase the production of COVID vaccinations and accessibility
- Signed the CHIPS and Science Act
- Signed Inflation Reduction Act
- Signed the Infrastructure Investment & Jobs Act
- Signed the Juneteenth National Independence Day Act
- Signed the Emmett Till Antilynching Act
- Appointed the first black woman to the Supreme Court
- Enacted Trump's Withdrawal from Afghanistan deal with the Taliban
- Signed the Respect for Marriage Act
- Country moved from a Recession to an Economic expansion period. The COVID recovery was the fastest of the G7 countries.
- Inflation went from 8.1% to 2.9%
- Helped to broker overseas deals: 2024 Ankara prisoner exchange and 2025 Israel-Hamas war ceasefire.

BIDEN NEGATIVES/PERCEIVED SHORTCOMINGS
- Highly unpopular. Consistently polled over 50% disapproval since August of 2021
- The Afghanistan Withdrawal was a success, but perceived to be too bumpy and badly mismanaged.
- The Economy moved from a recession to expansion, but most people didn't really "feel it"
- Rising costs of groceries, automobiles, and housing did not drop as expected or desired.
- Dropped out of the 2024 Democratic Primary in July of 2021 (about three months before the election). Some/many/a large portion of the population believed he should have declined to run for re-election, and allowed a legit primary to take place.
- Showed signs of mental and physical decline.
- Unable to get anything passed in 2023 and 2024, and left the party vulnerable to losing the House and Senate.

You're free to add or subtract any of the points made above. Just want to give the whole picture. Warts and all. Also, keep in mind that Presidents have a tendency to move up or down throughout history. For example, Eisenhower, Truman, Grant, LBJ, Ford, Carter, and the Bushes left the office unpopular, but have risen in the ranks to more respectful territory.

B to A- depending. He got a shitload of good things done despite a hostile congress. Democrats are the worst at selling success so, for example, maybe a quarter of Americans know about the very good infrastructure bill.

But they know eggs got more expensive. But they don't know about bird flu and they haven't bothered to think about COVID ****ing up supply chains around the globe, causing inflation everywhere. And they think businesses love to help the people, not maximize shareholder value. Etc.

Hell, maybe B+ to A- depending. Given the time he withdrew, he shouldn't have withdrawn. What should have happened earlier...didn't. He said he'd be a one term president. I don't put much stock in candidate promises but that's kinda an important one.

That said... buckle up, because shit's about to get far more stupid, far more mean-spirited, and far more gaslight-y.

A decent POTUS who got his bills passed and actually kept a good number of his promises, including but not limited to;

Passing infrastructure legislation.
Actually bringing new manufacturing jobs back to the US.
Reducing pharma prices.

As a retiree, inflation is a biggie for me. Under Bidenomics, the price of my breakfast burrito went up over 50%. huevos rancheros 100%.

I would give Biden a solid B+. Solid ideas, but sadly some issues with execution and being roadblocked by a Republican House and Supreme Court.

Biden's negatives overshadow any good. The aid bills were far too laden with pork but the real problem was the border tragedy. The border will forever be the biggest stain on his presidency. His first two years were full of inflation causing actions, and a lack of any attempts to get crime under control or to bring the nation together. His rhetoric was always divisive.
Then you have his family pardons. Just too many bad things.

What grade would you give Joe Biden for his presidency?

Joe doesn't get a grade. He's just a puppet, though a particularly bad one.

But his puppet masters get a deliberate F- for their deliberate attempt to screw over the American people.

His first two years were the most progressive two years since LBJ at minimum, and progressives responded by giving him no credit for it whatsoever, so it's likely the next Democratic president will be closer to Bill Clinton, or even Obama, than to Biden in 2021-2022.

Meanwhile, here in the real world:

C. Mediocre at best. He didn't have a lot of major accomplishments, and he presided over an era that was just OK. He mainly gets credit for not having any catastrophic screwups.

I would consider this a major accomplishment- he did what economists in 2021 did not think possible:

It was a decent outcome, all things considered. It definitely could have been worse. But I am hesitant to give Biden much credit for fixing a problem that he himself was partly responsible for causing, with the spending in the American Rescue Plan.

Hindsight is 20/20. I think people forget just how much uncertainty there was in 2021 about whether there was going to be a serious recession as the economy opened up. I think the calcuation at the time was that it was better to risk erring on the side of inflation rather than recession. And don't forget that the US handled that post-Covid inflation better than any other nation on the planet.

The best: Biden's Russia-Ukraine policy absolutely skewered a geopolitical enemy. Biden got us out of Afghanistan after his three predecessors all failed.

The worst: Seeking reelection and hiding his decline. Inflation. The border crisis.

Overall, his foreign policy was better than his domestic policies.

I rated him an F because

800,000 covid deaths
Afghan debacle that killed American's
allowing China to send spy balloons over US soil
allowed Russia and Iran to use prisoners and bent Biden over to get what they wanted
incredibly hard first 2 years with inflation as it was
discrimination towards people because of his DEI/LGBTQ demands
incredibly bad border policies that led to 12 million or more illegally in the USA people
bold faced lied about Hunter Biden pardon
used system to politically attack opponet
3 assassination attempts at least on political opponent

he's senile - he fell down, faux hand shaked, blank stares, completely iced out on occasions, couldn't remember things - it was horribly bad and someone else was running the show

the way he undermined the Supreme Court if they ruled not in Democrats favor

and finally, the 8064 pardons that he gave ... he might have known 64 of those, the other 8000 were given as favors to campaign donor's and were not even people he knew anything about.

only good things I can think of is Roe V Wade was overturned and he stopped Steel Mill acquisition .... 2 things in 4 years

BIDEN POSITIVES/ACHIEVEMENTS
- Signed the CHIPS and Science Act
I was going to give him an F, but he did sign the CHIPS act. And he eventually got on board with arming Ukraine against Russian invaders.

I can't think of any other positives from his administration. OTOH, negatives abound:
  • Botched withdrawal from Afghanistan.
  • Tried to kick 80 million Americans out of their careers.
  • Tried to add $400-600 billion to the national debt in student loan transfer to the taxpayers.
  • Added multiple trillions to the national debt.
  • Doomed his party and himself to a humiliating defeat out of stubbornness and hubris.
  • Tried to stop Israel from destroying Hamas and did everything he could to leave them in power.
  • Sucky lightweigt SCOTUS pick.
  • Dope VP.
I better stop here before I talk myself out of that D.

The experts rank him at #22

This. Couldn't have said it better. (y)

I gave Biden an A. I understand the B people as well as the War in Gaza has tarnished his legacy. But he was otherwise a great transitional president. Served better than both Obama and Clinton.

I would grade him a C. He started relatively strong but with a series of foreign policy flubs. However his communications were increasingly shaky and out of touch, for example denying there was an inflation issue. I’d give him a B for the first 2.5 years, a D for the final 1.5, which makes for a solid C overall.

I'd give him a C. He got some pretty decent things done as president, but there were a lot of missteps as well. Pretty much what I expected to be honest. A mediocre placeholder president.
