Milwaukee built the Quadracci Pavilion, designed by Santiago Calatrava (his first completed project in the United States), in 2001. It is a structure having wings that open 217 feet during the day and close at night or during severe weather. Milwaukee is very big on arts.

We also have different ethnic festivals at the lake front during the summer. There is Festa Italiana, Irish Fest, German Fest, Fiesta Mexicana, Polish Fest, Pride Fest, Indian Summer (my favorite), Bastille Days (smaller, downtown festival), African Fest, Greek Fest (smaller, state-fair grounds), and Arab World Fest.

The big one is Summerfest. This music festival attracts about one million people who come to listen to over 700 bands play over 11 days. The Guinness Book of World Records certified it as the world's largest music festival. Its nickname is "The Big Gig".

The festivals include large firework displays over Lake Michigan almost every day of the summer.
