I smell Trump and Hegseth’s grubby fingers all over this.

In case of paywall:

The alumni association at the U.S. Military Academy at West Point has canceled an award ceremony for actor and veterans advocate Tom Hanks, citing a desire for the Army service academy to focus on preparing future officers for war after several political controversies involving the Trump administration shook the institution this year.
Retired Army Col. Mark Bieger, president and chief executive officer of the West Point Association of Graduates, disclosed the decision in an email to faculty circulated Friday. A copy of Bieger’s message was reviewed and verified by The Washington Post.
Hanks, 69, was to receive the prestigious Sylvanus Thayer Award, which recognizes an “outstanding citizen” who did not attend West Point and has a distinguished record of service that exemplifies the academy’s ideals: “Duty, Honor, Country.” A ceremony and parade were scheduled for Sept. 25.

This man is a war hero who shamed the Army, West Point, and the USA.

He should have the guts to tell TACO to **** off. Apparently, he does not. This is a good indicator that he is not fit to run the alumni association.

Hanks was already selected for the award. There simply will not be a ceremony.
This is the same Trumplican party that said Taco was actually an FBI informant working to bring Epstein down.

Simply declaring that West Point never gave the award to Hanks, and had ALWAYS planned to give it to Taco is something MAGAs will nod silently at and declare its truthiness. Any other narrative is of course TDS.

Funny though, recipients of the Sylvanus Thayer Award normally have a formal award ceremony held at West Point that includes a military parade for the entire Corps of Cadets and an award dinner. This ceremony celebrates the recipient's character and accomplishments, which are seen as aligning with the West Point motto of "Duty, Honor, Country".

What excuse did they use to deny Hanks the ceremony?

Hanks has more sense of duty and honor in his little finger than Taco holds in his entire corrupt body.

You should read the OP before you ask such a question.

I don't really have anything against Hanks, fine actor. However, can you tell me what he's done that touches the U.S. Military Academy at West Point tradition of "Duty, Honor, Country?" He's an actor portraying a character. They give awards for doing that, it's theater not Duty.

Which sounds more viable:

Hanks ceremony was canceled to " prepare officer's for future wars"?

Or,

Donald sought to punish Hanks for his political views?

Before you answer, keep in mind that even though some recipients have had scheduling issues and not attended their own ceremony, but the ceremonies still took place in their absence.

West Point, NY: The West Point Association of Graduates (WPAOG) is pleased to announce that actor/writer/director/producer and philanthropist Tom Hanks will receive the 2025 Sylvanus Thayer Award, which has been given annually since 1958 to an outstanding citizen of the United States whose service and accomplishments in the national interest exemplify personal devotion to the ideals expressed in West Point’s motto: “Duty, Honor, Country.” The award will be presented on September 25, 2025, during ceremonies hosted by the U.S. Military Academy at West Point.
“Tom Hanks has done more for the positive portrayal of the American service member, more for the caring of the American veteran, their caregivers and their family, and more for the American space program and all branches of government than many other Americans,” says the Honorable Robert A. McDonald, Class of 1975, WPAOG Board Chairman.

He was selected some time back. The honor is still his. Just the ceremony is cancelled. Unlike you sheople, I verify information before I post.

The email did not say that he would still receive the award.

Anyone really surprised?
Nope.
Donald will do whatever he can.....
Put the full weight and power of the Federal government against those who dared speak and/or act out against his agenda.

That is just the kind of infantile pieces of shite that he, and all his sycophants are.

Sheople? Is that some kind of sexual slur?
