Civilization is hanging on by its fingernails. America will be less prepared, less willing to mitigate the pandemic through government action, more prone to believing disinformation, and overall the perfect candidate to be in post-apocalyptic state should another COVID level (or worse) pandemic hits. It will take tens of millions of deaths for MAGAmerica to even begin to take it seriously.

The real reason there was a backlash to COVID is that it showed that government was actually capable of good things, such as cutting childhood poverty in half overnight and bolstering the social safety net.
 
The left wing hysteria around COVID was more dangerous than the virus itself. But it did expose a lot of problems that nobody has the appetite to address.

I think we'll be smarter next time around. You want better compliance? Suggest rather than demand. Respect people's intelligence. Just provide a rationale and let people decide for themselves.

Lol so dramatic! Maybe you let someone lock you in your home but the vast majority of us could leave as we wished. Sure a lot of places were closed but some of us not so pampered individuals can go without a haircut or going to a restaurant for a bit. You had a good point with small businesses though.

The state always knows what's best! It's common knowledge that politicians are wise and benevolent, and that in reality, we are nothing but the adult children of our government mommy.

I don’t know how bad the race riots of 2020 were in your city but the local government sent emergency alerts to our phones every night reminding us of curfew. There was a period when you weren’t allowed to leave your house after dark.

A curfew is not the same as people being locked in their homes.

I don't think that another pandemic will cause our "total collapse". But it is true that the anti-vax hysterics in response to Covid and that being cemented into MAGA delusions and insanity that now sets rules will make us less capable at responding to a new pandemic. But that's what happens when you start listening to bat shit crazy stupidity.

One of the most destructive things the far right did during COVID was to teach its followers to reject real medicine and disease prevention measures as a political stance. Meanwhile, the leader of the far right is alive because of those things. Additionally, at least 1.19 million Americans have died of COVID.

Some people think problems don't exist if we just don't look at them. And also, progressives don't have any answers, so we need to keep on in the same direction and wait out Trump, as civilization is hanging off the cliff struggling to maintain its grasp.

I believe liberal moderates are fully useless, an obstacle to be overcome rather than an ally to assist in any significant struggle. These are the people who stood on the sidelines in every single catastrophic event of our times; who told the frog the water wasn't boiling. Basically just spoon-fed CNN watchers who think Jake Tapper has his finger on the pulse of every issue.

All you have to do is read the entitled comments from the usual suspects on this topic. Same as last time, when the next pandemic hits, and the US experiences one of the highest rates of deaths of any country, the same people will find conspiracy theories to explain it all away.
The number of deaths are fake, those who died had other medical conditions, it was mostly the elderly, a vaccine contains chips or changes your DNA, so don't trust it, Globalists are trying to run the U.S. and all kinds of nonsense.

Hopefully there won't be another major pandemic, but what will be the count next time? Another million? Maybe 2 million? 5million? Won't matter, some of those whiners and entitled "don't tell me what I have to do" types will simply disappear and those that are left will still say it was all fake, etc.
