Speech changes to fit the venue. That doesn't mean one is dishonest. It means one is socially and culturally aware of the different venues that are part of everyone's lives.

You must admit that speaking patois is WAY different than a white guy speaking to his parents differently than speaking to their friend group. I grew up around Caribbean folks and can generally understand the majority of what's said, so I'd never compare patois amongst friends to the switch-up when the cops roll through.

We are talking about the accent used in speech not the content. Changing the content of what you say to different groups is quite different from saying the same thing and simply changing the accent of how you say it.
