While the new blood feud between the two biggest assholes on planet Earth is quite amusing, it's important to remind everyone about the horrific cost to humanity that these two evil ****s Trump and Musk have caused to the world so far. --

Nicholas Kristof cited a study by the Center for Global Development that estimated how many lives are saved each year by American dollars: about 1.7 million HIV/AIDS deaths averted; 550,000 saved because of other humanitarian assistance; 300,000 tuberculosis deaths prevented; and nearly 300,000 malaria deaths forestalled. But that shows the positive impact of U.S. assistance, not what happens when it is withdrawn.

Brooke Nichols, a Boston University infectious-disease mathematical modeler and health economist, has developed a tracker that attempts to fill this gap. As of Monday, the model shows, about 96,000 adults and 200,000 children have died because of the administration’s cutbacks to funding for aid groups and support organizations. The overall death count grows by 103 people an hour.

In effect the greedy corrupt Democrats were stealing from the poor.

Apparently, all of us sitting here are 'causing death' around the world by not donating money to people who might live if they had our money.

The Number comes from a "model" by a Theoretical Health Modeler, who has has said that "the number is a projection, not a direct count, due to the absence of real-time tracking in many affected regions." And, she says, "The biggest uncertainties in all of these estimates are: 1) the extent to which countries and organizations have pivoted to mitigate this disaster (likely highly variable)," she wrote in The Washington Post. "And 2) which programs are actually still funded with funding actually flowing — and which aren’t."

IOW, it's a guess.

Is there any reason why they couldn't have simply rooted out the corruption instead of causing such misery to millions of people?

These people would still be getting the food and supplies if Trump and Musk had not shut down USAID.

Your inability to understand that is your problem.

You're obviously more upset about how the estimate was determined than about what Trump and Musk did to USAID. That's pretty ****ing stupid.

I have to admit my tolerance is pretty low. I found it unacceptable that Musk's actions resulted in children not being able to get access to life saving oxygen that was sitting undelivered in warehouses.

Is that much acceptable to you?

I don't know. You don't know. And the Modeler being cited admits that she doesn't know. But here's a question for you: What life-saving programs were stopped?

Nope. I'm critical of people making sweeping claims of "facts" on the basis of estimates of potentials created by mathematical models. Skepticism on such things is pretty f**king smart.

In this case the “corruption” is just the shiny object that Republicans always use. They will find a couple of million dollars of questionable spending or perhaps even fraud. Then they run around waving it in everyone’s face and claiming that a 50 billion dollar program needs to be shut down.

Bottom line is that they just don’t want the program to exist. Corruption is irrelevant.

I'd find that unacceptable also, if those children didn't have access to previously distributed oxygen. Do you have a reputable source for the facts of such a situation?

I realize that helping other people is anathema to some libertarians but gee it would seem like you would at least recognize cause and effect when you see it.

Money flowing and people to have food, medical care, etc. People live who otherwise would have died because they don’t have food or medical care. Money stops and causes food, medical care, etc to stop. As a result people die.

Seems pretty simple.

In this case the “scams” are just the shiny object that Republicans always use. They will find a couple of million dollars of questionable spending or perhaps even fraud. Then they run around waving it in everyone’s face and claiming that a 50 billion dollar program needs to be shut down.

Bottom line is that they just don’t want the program to exist. Corruption is irrelevant.

Rick Scott ran a company that scammed far more money from Medicare and Republicans elect him Governor of Florida then Senator.
