Ann Telnaes, a Pulitzer Prize-winning cartoonist for The Washington Post, said on Friday evening that she was resigning after the newspaper’s opinions section rejected a cartoon depicting The Post’s owner, Jeff Bezos, genuflecting toward a statue of President-elect Donald J. Trump.
In a brief statement posted to Substack, Ms. Telnaes — who has worked at The Post since 2008 — called the newspaper’s decision to kill her cartoon a “game changer" that was “dangerous for a free press.”
I guess he's just another thin skinned billionaire. The cartoon hit a little too close to home for Mr. Bezos.
Weird, so making a statement that besmirches the owner of the business you work for may not be seen as acceptable by some. Who knew?
Absolutely. On the plus side, she wasn’t fired.I can agree with that, he is entitled to do so...but also absolutely the legitimacy of pointing it out and making it public. There's consequences for both.
Another lib becomes enemy #1 to the American Marxists for daring to stray, ever so slightly, from the Party line. The cartoon hit a little too close to home for Mr. Bezos.
It’s a business decision for Jeff, he ought not be in the newspaper business if he can’t stand the heat.
I make Zuckerberg the top guy, who is the one with the lipstick?
Absolutely. On the plus side, she wasn’t fired.
That would be my assumption as well.Yep. OTOH if she tried again she probably would have been and that was probably made pretty clear to her from her bosses.
I was a Bezos fan in the 1990s, when he was just barely getting by. He seemed a little nerdy and unassuming. With his stint as top money dog in the world, (2018-2021,) he started believing his own myth. A perfect example of what money can do……Another lib becomes enemy #1 to the American Marxists for daring to stray, ever so slightly, from the Party line.

I think they are from tallest to shortest: Musk, Bezos, Zuckerberg, and Vivek (the one holding the lipstick). It’s a business decision for Jeff, he ought not be in the newspaper business if he can’t stand the heat.

Disney wouldn't be able to sue for a cartoonist's depiction of Mickey Mouse. Fair use and all that.I think they are from tallest to shortest: Musk, Bezos, Zuckerberg, and Vivek (the one holding the lipstick).
And of course Mickey Mouse prostrating himself where you can't see his face because Disney has all the lawyers in the world and isn't afraid to sue.
Oh well, that never made much sense anyway. His paper's motto is "Democracy dies in darkness."
Or, at least, it was.

They might not be able to win, but the can definitely sue.Disney wouldn't be able to sue for a cartoonist's depiction of Mickey Mouse. Fair use and all that.

Not really. Kind of dumb for anyone to attack the person who signs their paycheck. Wouldn’t surprise me if she already had another gig lined up somewhere before she made the cartoon. It did before when the editorial board had independence. But not so much now.

You mean, Bezos should step in line and do what he's told.No one's arguing its validity. That's important for a legitimate news organizations credibility. The owner should put the product, not his thin skin, first.
