Was the 9-11 terrorist attack a hate crime?

I did a web search with this question "Was the 9-11 terrorist attack a hate crime?".
What I got back was hits on hate crimes against Muslims.
My question to you is why aren't the 2977 people who were murdered on 9-11 considered to be the victims of a hate crime?
It seems to me that the 9-11 terrorist attack was the biggest hate crime in the history of our country.
Why can't they say that it was a hate crime?
What is the reasoning behind that?

Dictionary: hate crime is

a crime, typically one involving violence, that is motivated by prejudice on the basis of ethnicity, religion, sexual orientation, or similar grounds.

Why would anyone downplay a full-blown terrorist attack by calling it a "hate crime?"

The question is why are the 9-11 mass murder victims not considered to be they victims of a hate crime?
 
If 9/11 happened today liberals would be dancing in the streets.

This is hate crime.

WCSD Superintendent Joe Ernst, board president issue joint statement on Reno High

They weren't charged as hate crimes, but swastikas and racial slurs express hatred.

One defendant with a good lawyer had his charges dropped and moved to juvenile court. It appears he didn't turn 18 until 20 minutes after the crime was committed.

That's what I care about. I call 'em hate crimes. You can call them, and 9/11, whatever you want.
