was Khabib Nurmagomedov being hateful and mean (not shaking female announcers hand)? his religious beliefs says don't shake her hand ... what if his religious beliefs said "don't call a man a woman and don't call women men" ?? Does his religious beliefs trump courtesy ? Was he being hateful or mean ? If a trans man wants me to say "she" can I said " I apologize no, I won't do that" and it be ok ?

Scott even apologized for extending her hand to be shaken

UFC legend Khabib Nurmagomedov raised eyebrows over the weekend when he refused to shake hands with CBS Sports broadcaster Kate Scott during UEFA Champions League coverage.

The former UFC fighter, who is Muslim, shook hands with streamer IShowSpeed, Jamie Carragher, Micah Richards and Thierry Henry. As Scott put her hand out, Nurmagomedov kept his hand at his chest.

"I apologize, thank you so much," Scott said taking her hand away and putting it toward her chest.

It is likely that Nurmagomedov was following his religious beliefs in not shaking hands with Scott. The undefeated UFC fighter is a devout follower of Islam. The religion instructs men not to shake hands with a woman they are not married to.

It is a religious belief that is entrenched in his faith. For him to observe that custom is not rude. One can argue it's antiquated etc but it isn't rude or hateful.

What if? What if?
Here's what I know. When I'm in a different culture, they get to decide what's polite and what's not. That guy was being impolite not shaking the woman's hand. Hateful and mean? Only he can say that but I'd guess not.
Would you go to a Muslim country and insist on shaking a woman's hand? That would be impolite. But would it be hateful and mean? Only you can say.

Is there a trans boogie woman under your bed? Inquiring minds want to know.

I agree that if something isn't acceptable to you - in this case religion drives Khabib to not shake a woman's hand, he shouldn't have to

I also agree if someone doesn't want to call Kaitlyn Jenner a woman, they have the same right to not do that based on how they feel. Its not hateful, its not mean

Now that's a convoluted way to get into a position from which to rag on muslims.

I actually have NO idea what this thread is about except for someone to complain about something or make snide suggestions about something. I wish people would find more useful ways of living their lives.

I found it .... fascinating

If that had been Trump shaking all the men's hands vigorously and joyfully ... and ignoring the woman

how would that have been addressed by the media ?

do you want to recap some of the polls you've started ?

what to do on a gloomy day is a useful way to live a life ???

If that had been Trump
What if? What if?
If that had been Trump, if that had been Trump, if that had been Trump, if that had been Trump.
Egads no, I couldn't keep repeating that mantra all over again. Someone needed something to complain about today is my guess otherwise I have no idea what the OP is on about.

Misogyny bad....except when it's Muslims.

If just about anyone else would have disrespected Scott the way Khabib did ... it would be national news
Sure sure, get yourself all upset over that little incident. No skin off of my teeth ;)

Eh? He wants people to attack all muslims because he says a male muslim didn't shake a woman's hand because he was muslim.

Oops, it was dumber than I thought.

What's really supposed to happen is for people to cry about how the meanypoo media victimized them by not making it national front page news that a male muslim didn't shake a woman's hand and did not report that it was done because he was a muslim, then attack muslims.

There is a huge difference between practicing the precepts of an established religion and acting on personal biases, opinions and feelings. Would you consider it appropriate it someone refused to shake the hand of a black person because they felt them inferior? If you are that uncomfortable then perhaps avoid the situation altogether.

He didn't disrespect her anymore than a minister who won't marry a gay couple .

Probably because his particular sect doesn't shake hands of a woman. Kinda typically for a religion to have such restrictions, but omg, to post a thread demonstrating how upset someone is over this suggests that this was NOT posted just to highlight this difference, but to create a narrative to appease the sensitivities of the OP.

why ?

why is there a difference? why can't everyone hide under the "religion" banner for how they act ?

Difference is truly following your religious beliefs and pretending it's a religious belief. You want to lie and claim it's a religious belief that's up to you.

I agree

and how do liberals see that minister who won't marry gay couples ?
I have no problem whatsoever with that and I don't think most liberals do.....the florist who has a personal bias against gay marriages is different

It's irresponsible. Responsible meaning "the opportunity or ability to act independently and make decisions without authorization."
